So What's The Problem With The Perfect Kiss?

OK, I've read about these technical problems with playing TPK but I'm a bit in the dark as to what they are. Apparently it would need to be "reprogrammed" and this would take about two months.

Having dabbled with an old Atari ST and Akai S700 in the very early 90's I know a wee bit about MIDI. As far as I can see the only way it would need "reprogrammed" is if the original MIDI files were lost. They may need to spend a bit of time recreating the original sounds if they were never saved but this could be done in a couple of days.

Even in the event that the files have been lost this talk of two months to reprogram is bollocks. Any engineer worth his salt would be able to listen to the original and knock up a copy in less than a week.

Can someone please explain.

For a start, the quoted figure from Roger Lyons was six months. It hasn't been played since 1993 because the band updated their sequencers etc between then and 1998, and the disks are incompatible. Because of the amount of work it would take, they would appear to have decided against it, which is a bastard fookin ripoff for anyone who buys a ticket to see them. No amount of tired old Bacon Rolls, Toothache or Touched by the Cock of Satan will make up for the lack of snogging perfection. Any why oh why did they spend such valuable time on such shoddy versions, when there were real appreciated tracks to do instead ?

I shall be very disembowelled, metaphorically speaking, if the Perfect Kiss does not appear at least once this summer. I may even rip up my season ticket in a fit of pique.

A MIDI file is a MIDI file is a MIDI file. Regardless of what type of sequencer you use whether it be PC/Mac based or a dedicated bit of sequencing kit it should make zero difference. A MIDI file is compatible with anything which is MIDI driven.

I think yer right Jarvo - I'd rather (as well as 99% of this board probably) them play more songs off GR/ or lesser known songs than 'modern' versions of their big hits

I'd love to see AOC, perhaps we could bully them in to it in Paris?

What we'd like to hear and what we will actually hear are probably two different things i suspect..

Yeah, I was delighted to discover that Amiga MIDI files are also standard... Yipee for me!!

i don't think so, i'm curious to see what the new technology will do the old songs. it's the same songs, but it just doesn't sound as dated. you're implying the dated sequencers or keyboards (whatever they compose their music with) makes TPK the great song that it is. if TPK is that good of a song, it should make a good transition to the new technology.
