How about this for 2007...

I heard before about New Order touring "as" Joy Division in 2007.

But now I was thinking about this, it would be interesting to see them tour with Sam Reiley as the singer, just for the sake of it, do at least one gig... could be a benefit.

It's bound to happen, if Bernard sang Digital with his own double in 2002 ;)

Anybody would actually like that?

Heard so many complaints about NO doing JD, so if they tour with JD, why not actually take the guy doing and singing as Ian Curtis in Control ;)

It would be just like the Doors touring with Ian Astbury...and we know what a great idea that was!

Total crap idea. They've done the "New Order as Joy Division" bit already, and to be honest, I doubt they'll actually tour this year as anything.

New Order touring as 'New Order' would be infinitely better.

Put the bong down Nick! More chance of them getting Jim Reilly Jim Reilly as bassist.

I have a gut feeling that they may do Mcr vs. Cancer again as a one-off, but nothing else this year, if Bernard is refusing to tour as has been quoted on JD Central.

If they popped up at the MCR v Cancer gig how wacky would it be for a New Order only set.

OK it ain't gonna happen.:banghead:

I notice you include "benefit" at the end because that would be the only angle which might protect them against the inevitable backlash this idea would get ;) A justified backlash.

I think what people don't get is that Joy Division is not a band that can reform or disband at will; Joy Division ceased to be in May 1980 and has never existed since and never will exist again. New Order doing a few Joy Division songs is not the same thing as "reforming Joy Division" a term which has been bandied about far too much lately.

Unless Ian faked his own death and really did open that sandwich shop by the seaside and is now eyeing the comeback circuit?

i think i would just about throw the towel in with new order if any of those ideas came into being. hey i love JD but ians dead, ive got over it and im bloody sure that most of us have as well. the last thing we want is a kareoke JD. time for em to get back into the studio if u ask me and bang out some NEW ORDER TOONS. hands up anyone who thinks im right??

New Order touring 'as' Joy Division would be one of the dumbest things they could possibly do.

Playing JD songs, fine - but touring AS Joy Division would be a horrible trashing of their legacy.

I'd rather them touring as "Warsaw" :D

Does it matter... If they change their name to JD for a while I wouldn't be bothered, after all 3/4 of JD still exist.

Heres a CRAZY Thought!

New Order...stop relying on past glories..recognise that the music they made as New Order was a million times more creative and innovative than anything Joy Division did.........New Order go to studio..make NEW AWESOME record..2008..NEW Album and NEW TOUR by NEW ORDER...who will play 2 JD songs and 17 NO songs per set..

Well, one can dream!

It annoys me that JD get more press than NO these days. JD had an interesting lead singer and a handfull og freat songs...

New Order changes the face of modern music, wrote and produced the biggest selling 12 inch single ever, have at least 3 excellent album to thier name, wrote at least 20 great songs, pioneered the use of technology in rock music....

And all of that is overlooked for JD's repetetive guitar and drone and thier crazy lead singer who happened to be a poet. I mean, JD were awesome, but they were still a guitar bass and drums band. NO really pionneered the combination of dance and rock.

Dont get me wrong..

I LOVE Joy Division. They wrote sone amazing songs, and they stood out from the pack. They were innovators, but NO innovated more.

But New Order were better and more innovative in every other way. The only area where JD top New Order is Ian brilliant lyrics. I equally like Ians and Barneys voice, just depends on my mood. Most of the time, I like Barneys more.

Case in point....I love the full version of TPK more than anything by JD.

they are N.O. not JD.

Touring as JD would be a stupid idea. It would give the impression that they have to depend on JD material to go on tour these days

i would love to see new order play their wonderful collection of new order songs and joy division songs. that's it. so simple. oh, and an occasional outrageous cover?

Well if they toured more as NO then I wouldn't mind, and it might be interesting, but given that they tour so sparatically, I say:thumbdown:
