Had Ian stayed alive.......

Would Joy Division eventually head down a musical path similar to that of New Order? You can hear the blueprint of New Order in songs like Isolation, Transmission, and These Days, and the y were starting to use synthesizers quite a bit in their later years. But would Ian have been appreciative of the full blown dance sound that would go on to define New Order? Obviously there is no definitive answer, because we will never know, but I do think about it sometimes. I think personally that Ian wouldn't have it. He seemed a bit too serious to enjoy stuff like "The Village" and "Perfect Kiss". I think had he stayed alive, electronics would eventually creep up and influence the sound, but I don't think he would ever let it get to the point that it got to with Barney at the helm. Your thoughts?

I'm agree with you, if Ian continued live, in spite of his high creativity, I think Joy Division had continued making music relatively like a postpunk band , and they never had reach the level of NO. For Instance make anything like Technique album....i don't think so!!

Ian probably would have went with the electronic thing but kept the punk edge to it...he was so talented I think he could have fit in easily with the transformation...as for the repeat of threads....hey, i wasn't on here when this was first discussed, so its all new to me.:D

i'm reminded of that part in his widow's book where Ian was standing out on the balcony wearing his sister's jacket thingy and eyeliner,and thinking how funny that must have been to see him doing that. thats when you know a guy is crazy as a lark, if he goes so far as to cross dress, to scare people.
