Now that 24 HPP is coming to the US shores this summer (August 4th, according to Entertainment Weekly), we can now focus our attention on "Transmission" the biopic based on Debby's memoir. Who should play what roles? Here's a prospective cast to my liking:

Barney-same guy who plays him in 24Hpp Hooky-Russell Crowe Steve-Sick Boy from Trainspotting Debbie-Sharon Osbourne (Mrs. Ozzy) Annik-Tiffani Amber Thiessen (hell, why not?) Rob-? Tony Wilson-Alan Cumming

and let's not forget Ian.....-Tobey Maguire

Unleash your scorn, that's my tenative cast (still need suggestions for Rob)

Thats classic Taboo .. Especially Mrs Osbourne playing Deborah ...

Have to agree about Russell Crowe playing Hooky ... I still haven't woken up ... Shall reply again later ..

The 24hr PP cast would be pretty hard to beat, the only one I'd change would be Hooky, I can't get my head round the Ralf Little thing at all. Don't know who I'd choose though. Perhaps Ray Winslett?

I like your list, Taboo. It's very interesting! :) Tobey Maguire is a well-looking and telented young man.

Especially about Hooky's part, you have the same idea with me. Russell Crowe? I like that guy! Brilliant actor. When I saw him at the Golden Globe Awards this year, I talked to myself. "Look, this Australian guy looks like Hooky in tuxedo. Beard, long hair and a wry look... Perfect! No make-up required."

By the way, I have some silly thought now. It's just a joke, you know. If you want to cast Maguire and Crowe at the same time, you have to have 20 million dollars at least. Which studio has willing to pay that big money for a biopic of the man passed away at 23 behind his family and associates? Dreamworks? Fox will pay the money? It would be the conversion of A Beautiful Mind (I like that movie actually, because it's about schizophrenia. But I don't like its ending). Imagine, Ian would not divorce anyone, would not commit suide, would live until 45, finally Ian wins the Grammy and tells her wife "You are the reason I am." Oh.....It's just a joke... If I am a movie director, I also want Tobey Maguire and Russell Crowe. But they are too expensive. :D

or was it winona ryder?

Sick Boy was indeed Jonny Lee Miller

and he had been *married* to Angelina Jolie at one point in time. shortly after they did "Hackers" together.

but she nearly left him for Jenny Shimizu while she was making "Foxfire."

and dunno what happened to smash it up after that. :D

Mr. Bean - Ian Sooty - Steve Barney the Dinosaur - Barney Mr. Bean's Teddy - Hooky

:uhoh:

...this is the sort of absurdity my husband and I giggle over at dinner.

more seriously on the subject of Ian, the names of Tobey Maguire, Johnny Depp, or Wes Bentley have come up in our conversation.

Just looking at him in all the promo stuff for Spider Man, I have to say, while not a dead ringer, Tobey sure looks like he could pull it off. Besides, there are very few other actors that really look like Ian normally anyway, it's much easier to see him in the part (Dunno about the accent though....)

I think Alan Cumming would make either a great Gretton or Wilson, he's just so over-the-top I could see him doing either role....

Taboo--coincidentally, my husband came up with Tobey Maguire for Ian long before you started this thread! He was the first person he thought of. He thought of him mostly based on him being "that guy from The Ice Storm". Interesting!

HAS ANYONE SEEN THE MOVIE "YOUNG POISONER'S HANDBOOK?" i sat through the entire thing thinking "shit, that guy looks like ian." he even has the eyes, which would be hard to fake. very good movie, as well

yeah i saw him in the ice storm too. i've always imagined him (or typecast, whatever) as the sensitive geeky intellectual well-rounded guy. ian some how doesn't fit him, but i guess if he got a haircut and got an english accent...he could pass for ian.

Here's what the producer of this film told Rollingstone.com:

"Ian believed he was getting messages from God"

Don't this sound slightly worrying?

Hooky was giving an interview last sunday on the Terry Christian show on Century 105.4FM (radio) and he said that JUDE LAW IS PLAYING IAN CUTIS. Anyone else catch the interview? it was 2 hours from 8pm to 10pm, they played some records and went through the era from 1976 to present day.

:jump:

Jude Law as Ian Curits?

Nuh uh. Shut up!

(Er, don't shut up literally. Just my rude way of showing utter shock. ;))

I'd have seen the movie anyways, but mygoodness, Jude Law is hottt. Even Barney were in his pre-man boob days doth not hold a candle. But don't worry, Barney, I still wub you. *air kisses*

i don't like that mcguire. he's too bleeding wholesome. he would have to spend at least the next six years in front of a mirror saying "good evening, we're joy division" before he could ever pull it off

A bit of physical resemblance doesn't do the whole job, of course. Also, it will be interesting to have two different actor Ians to compare. Transmission may get some big name who doesn't hold a candle to Sean Harris's performance (which I haven't seen yet so I can't judge), where some unknown could have done a better job without the big name baggage attached.

This is all very strange to me, my favorite band that years ago I knew no one else who liked, being the subject of not one, but two movies!
