Donating Bootlegs

Hiya - brand new member on the forum, although I've been a NO fan for 18 years, because I've got a specific question I'm hoping someone can help me with.

I've got 25 audio cassette tapes - c60 and c90s - mostly gig recordings, but with some officially unreleased stuff and rarities, and having done a big clear out, and being unable to transfer them to digital format, I'm basically looking either (in order of preference) -

a) to hand them over to the band if, and it's a big if, they're interested.

Or if they're not fussed

b) I'd like to pass them to a committed fan resource to transfer to a nice lossless digital format, with a promise they be made available on a not for profit basis (unless it was for the band, or maybe the versus cancer charity)... Again, that's presuming there's anything that is worth keeping.

Is the Manc 88 rehersals tape the 'technique demos' that came up last year that Sam et al.. purchased? Also are you sure Glasgow 86' is the Brotherhood tour and not summer 87' date @ Barrowlands, cos if it is a couple of us are interested (well me n John Sludden).

No disrespect bud, but i reckon some of the collecting ' ardcore will have most of your list, i cannot see anything specific that 'jumps' out as holy grail material

Yeah welcome ROB.But to answer your questions we may need the hardcore collectors.I know some on here have 300-500 tapes of such gigs.So they will give you the answers you need no doubt.I just want a recording of any gig that DIGGY MIKE ain't singing along to!:D

Cheers for the replies gents. Yeah, I've no doubt the majority, if not all the stuff I've got is already captured - I just don't want to chuck out anything that isn't.

To cover specific questions -

The Manchester 88 Soundtrack is a mistype, I'm afraid. It's actually from 1987 and has lots of Star Trek samples on it plus Hooky cooing at his daughter, let's go and a few songs.

The Glasgow 86 tape... Well, that's all I have for that one - a C90 with 'Glasgow '86' written on one inlay, and 'Glasgow '86/Manchester '88' written on t'other. It starts with Your Silent Face and lots of chanting along, continues with Dreams Never End, and appears to be the complete gig. I think it's brotherhood era - there's no Touched or Faith and Every Little Counts is introduced as a new song. 'That's the quickest I've had me coat off on this tour' Hooky announces, just before Ceremony. A fantastic gig and probably the recording I've listen to the most, funnily enough.

If any of the hardcore collectors mentioned above fancied getting in touch to help sort the wheat from the chaff, that'd be great...!

That Glasgow 86 is the Barras from 12th Sept - pretty commonly available. Decent gig, nothing special.

In a nutshell, the band have all of these already, and there's nothing listed that will have that much appeal to the vast majority of collectors on here. If you want to give them away, maybe contact the Manchester District Music Archive http://www.mdmarchive.co.uk, who are always grateful for artefacts.

As Tim says, it's all widely circulated.

This is assuming of course that you got all these in the same way as most fans (buying them at record fairs, tape trading etc). If you got any of them from any band or label sources you may have better copies than those circulated.

For instance do the Western Works Demos sound like they're being sung by chipmunks underwater?

This will be the soundcheck from Hacienda 87 and possibly a few other odds n sods thrown in.
