Continuing on from the threads about Special and Ruined In A Day (and listening to Republic alot lately) does anybody know what the vocoder style voice says on the intro to Spooky. It sounds like "BASS FANATIC" to me. Is it just Barney speaking through a vocoder, is it a sample, or from something completely different?
Spooky intro question

I always thought "bass mechanic", sounding more like MOchanic....somewhat comfirmed by the fact that a little judicious looping and you can get it saying "smokin' smokin' smokin'".
Don't reckon it's a real vocoder, too abreaive, could be one of those boss se-whatever's like underworld used on Cowgirl i suppose, using a buzzy pulse waveform as the other input.
15:1 on it came from a sample CD though.

Found it, by M.C. A.D.E.
You can listen to a sample here
It sounds like that record has sampled Afrika Bambatta's Planet Rock,so it could be saying something else.
I thought he said "Bass volcanic..." ![]()
I think it's the second best song on the cd and a highly underrated song. Bern sings beautifully.
Spooky and Here To Saty are two of my all time faves...
Problem is, the album mix suck! hence why ALL remixes of Spooky are better.
The minimix rocks!

Ive yet to hear a better remix myself. The one I did hear was some awful house thing with the tune removed.
It is one of Barneys best vocals in my book too.![]()
Never heardany of the remixes, but will have to try some. Always thought the intro could/should have been left out as it is a turn off for me, but love the rest of the song.
And at least everyone else heard something that made sense, I was always confused as I thought it said "face organic, yeah".......which I have no idea what that would mean![]()

I'm embarrassed to admit that I really have stayed away from the new order videos. For some reason I worry they will damamge the image I already have for the song. It actuallywasn't until three months ago I watched the True Faith video. I found it funny and enjoyable, but really I prefer the song with out the images of people slapping each other.
Seems I have liked cetian bands for certian things, NO- to enjoy all the studio albums Cure - to collect all the 7" vinyl Smashing Pumpkins - to collect any song that has been recorded Radiohead & Bjork - to collect all their videos
Don't know why I don't want to mix these things, but for some reason, I like it this way????? I don't know.
