Peter Gabriel is several sandwiches short of a picnic and so New Order probably got tired of him sending naked breakdancers and piglatin versions of their songs to their homes.
Vox June 1993:
New Order's first tentative steps at recording together again after their four-year leave of absence took place in the pair's home studio in Macclesfield. But according to Gillian, band politics intervened almost immediately. "We suggested Pascal Gabriel as a producer. He'd worked on our own single, 'Tasty Fish'. He was great until he started working with the band. Then he completely messed us two up. You don't think people are going to do things like that", she says, in a resigned, rather world-weary fashion.
After four weeks the band relocated to Peter Gabriel's Real World studios where, according to Gillian, producer Stephen Hague, "brought a sense of organisation to it. He's a very restrained character. He made us work sensible hours, so we weren't staying up all night."
And I had the bleeding mag right in my sight so no, I'm not that obsessed. :p

Pascal Gabriel worked on Regret (his name is clearly on the sleeves) and one or two other Republic tracks... it's just a coincidence he shares the same last name with Peter Gabriel.

You're saying an entirely new person (that doesn't exist) has been fabricated for all these years due to a typo on a New Order sleeve?

But nah, Pascal's also listed on the Other Two record Vox mentions so it's just lazy journalism.
No wonder they don't print that mag any more!
Funnily enough, I was trying to buy a synth on Ebay that Pascal was selling (though I had no idea who he was.) I emailed to ask about postage and in the signature of his response he included a URL to his own site (http://www.melophobia.com/) I followed it out of interest and noticed that it mentioned that he'd worked with New Order. I checked the sleeve notes to Regret and the name tied up. I asked him about it, but he didn't supply too much info though when asked if he would work with them again in the future he said "No plans to do more with them at the moment - but you never know..."
Never bought the synth in the end - there was a shortage of them on Ebay back then and it ended up going for an excessive price.
Boring anecdote ends now...

[orange]That was the article I thought I had read -Cheers! Just got me thinking coz I dug out the 12" of tasty fish for the first time in ages and I'd always thought it was a good single. Read some stuff on wikipedia about Pascal Gabriel, his roots in belgium punk aren't too evident by the time he did tasty fish![/orange]
