jUST got thisemail from a company offering me an original signed copy of the an ideal for living 7" for a whopping £2,250 :eek:

Here are the full details on the autogrpahs , i will have a picture for this shortly .

JOY DIVISION An Ideal For Living EP (Mega rare ORIGINAL 1978 UK 4-track 7" vinyl EP on the bands own Enigma label, featuring Warsaw, No Love Lost, Leaders Of Men & Failures Of the Modern Man, housed in a fold-out 'Hitler Youth drummer boy' picture sleeve with original poly outer. This legendary item has it's own place in the history of punk/new wave & has been FULLY AUTOGRAPHED by the entire band on the
back in black ink!

HISTORY

This 4-track 7" EP was recorded at the Pennine Sound Studio, Oldham in December 1977 when the band were still known as WARSAW. It was eventually released in early 1978 on the bands' own Enigma label, despite them not being happy with the sound quality, after the band name change to Joy Division.This was their first official relase and before they signed to the legendary Factory Records label.The sleeve, which showed a controversial image of a Hitler Youth drummer boy alongside the 'Joy Division!' name, folds out into a 14" x 14" poster sleeve which was designed by band guitarist Bernard Albrecht (nee Sumner). Legend has it that the band had to fold the sleeves and add the vinyl 7"s themselves!

The 7" has been the subject of various bootleg 're-issues'.

CONDITION

The matt black label has silver lettering with the catalogue number PSS139

Matrix numbers (hand scratched) read:

PSS-139-EP-A-1 EG

PSS-139-EP-B-1 EG

The vinyl itself shows few signs of being played, although as mentioned above the band were not over happily with the actual sound quality of the EP, hence the reason that it was re-released on 12" vinyl for superior clarity.

It also looks to have been pressed on 're-processed' vinyl and some lumps & bumps are evident, although they are mostly inaudible & it plays without fault with just some light surface noise in places.

There are a couple of visible surface marks on side two but these are completely cosmetic & probably part of the 'quality' pressing.

The vast majority of these 'faults' are actually the result of the original pressing process & the vinyl used, so a 'better' sounding copy does not exist & explains the bands decision to subsequently re-release it!

The black & white sleeve folds out into a 1-sided 14" x 14" 'poster'. The overall condition is excellent with minimal discolouration, creases or marks.

AUTOGRAPHS

On the back of the sleeve, each member of the band - Bernard Albrecht, Stephen Morris, Ian Curtis & Peter Hook - have signed in black pen next to their individual pictures.

The autographs were obtained at The Band On The Wall club in Manchester in May 1978 & comes with a note from the original owner explaining how the autographs were obtained.

Possibly the ultimate Joy Division collectable in 'as good as it gets' condition AND it's autographed.

This is THE ONE.

Would any of you lot pay that amount for it?

It will be interesting to see if it does sell for that amount!

Yup, Esprit are most definitely rip off merchants :nod: I used to think they were the dog's bollocks until I discovered eBay and other second hand record stores.

A classic example is Esprit selling the Joy Division/New Order Collection CD for £315 yet I managed to nab a copy off eBay for just over £50 (eBay's got to be a much more accurate indication of a release's true value). Someone nabbed another copy a few weeks later for a similar amount as well...

It all begs the question... how do they arrive at their prices? Take what it was bought for and add 300%? If I applied that same logic to the products I sell in my line of work my customer base would crumble overnight; they'd quite rightly tell me to go forth and multiply.

They're just fucking chancers are EIL, it's pretty disgusting actually :nonono:

Reading this makes me beg the question....Obviously,Mr. Curtis's autograph isn't very rare then & you can pick it up almost anyplace? I'm pretty sure I'm not behind the door on this,until someone on here tells me otherwise,but in all the years I've followed N.O/JD,in every possible capacity,this is the first time I've ever come across anything with the great man's autograph on.Somewhere,it obviously grows on trees. :scratch: :shrug:

PS. Altho' his mum apparently lives around the corner from me,so I s'pose I could go & ask her :skeptic:

I wouldn't buy it. I saw that espirit shop and knew it was a phony. those prices are way too high. and the feedback they were getting was just terrible.even though i don't like ebay, at least you have a better chance of getting what you purchased rather than from that fraud shop.
