Good deals come to those who wait and all that eh?? :)

Had a good long mooch around the record emporiums in the big city with the wife yesterday and couldn't believe the amount of mega-cheap stash Fopp have got on offer right now - not content with practically the entirety of their Manchester titles (ALL New Order CDs and International for £3, with Singles and Substance at £5 each -even though these are the rubbish Warner reissues in the main - plus RETRO for £20), hundreds of other titles are going for the same amount as well. The Joy Division book is £3 too (making of Unknown Pleasures).....

Ended up picking up "A Collection" DVD, "Singles", two Cocteau Twins remasters which I didn't have previously, a Ramones 3CD collection (£5 all of these), plus "Amazing Grace" by Spiritualized which went for only £1....loads of copies all shrinkwrapped too. Also "Know Your Enemy" by the Manic Street Preachers as it too was going cheap for only £3. :thumb:

That's almost 30 quid's worth of stuff - 1 DVD and 9 CDs worth of entertainment - how can you argue with that? Shame I hardly had much cash spare to buy our food afterwards! :p

Nice haul :thumb: That's a bit how I feel when shopping places like SecondSpin.com and getting "used" cds that are new-in-wrap and nevr opened for 99 cents, blows my mind! Sometimes it is indeed better to wait a while and get in on the cheap. :evil4:

Well done! It's a very good shop, lots of interesting stuff & cheap too if look.Shame about the cracking framed pic of Hooky selling for a ton tho'.Whether it's an original,one-off or not,it's a bit fookin' dear  :nono: :thumb:

The only cheap shop we had locally that was similar was Music Zone in Macclesfield but I know that closed along with loads of other regional outlets when the chain went into receivership in early February and now, ironically, I hear that Music Zone has been bought up by FOPP of all people (well the Stockport flagship store has at any rate), so whether or not any others will reopen is another matter altogether.

FOPP is great though - it's impossible to go there and have a long mooch without coming out empty handed! :evil4:

We love FOPP

You don't actually save any money though; you just come away with three times as much stuff as you do from a HMV visit. :thumb:

I really do hope that FOPP go from strength to strength and don't find themselves hitting the buffers in a couple of years time due to inevitable changes in market forces etc. Not bad for a Scottish based independent who have expanded to now become one of the best retailers in the UK - and you can see how HMV have been bothered, cos occasionally they too have been offering a lot of CDs and stock for £5-£8 to try and claw back some of their customers who have either defected to FOPP or their own HMV online shop - which is bizarrely run by a different company altogether but undercuts their namesakes high street prices by as much as 50 percent.

With FOPP, their success lies in their low prices, their rotating catalogue and stock and the fact that they offer so much better an environment to browse in. In store cafes, toilets, turntable decks to listen to your vinyl - the latter is all HMV shops bother to have in their stores. :):thumb:

I've personally thought for a long time, that for such a musically blessed city as Manchester, the HMV is fookin' crap. The amount of time I have been let down when trying to find something that, altho' not everyday chart fodder or currently 'what's in',isn't too far removed from what they should be stocking. It's good therefore that we have such gems as Piccadilly Records & now Fopp, which have their fingers on the musical pulse. They should be fookin' worried if they're losing sales, especially to the website too!!!:nono:  :thumb:

Actually, i just looked, there's one in Wrexham, which is only an hour away. Hmm, wonder why I never heard if this store before, I've got a HMV not too far away, and whenever i go to Chester I have a look in virgin mega stores.

It says on Wikipedia that there is one in Wrexham but that it's a former music zone shop, maybe they haven't quite changed oiver yet.
