Hooky, The Laugharne Weekend & the end of New Order?

Thought I'd report in about Hooky at the Laugharne Weekend. I'm sure last weekends literary festival in the sleepy west Wales village was a success but me & me mate only went to see the man. Hooky took to the stage in the small community hall in front of an intimate audience of about 30 (although I think there was well over double that by the end). In chat-show interview style by Keith Allen he talked for over an hour about the JD early days through to the present, & about his forthcoming book. Highlights for me were them both reminiscing about the recording of WIM & Allen's anecdote about sticking his finger up his arse and conning Bernard into smelling it.

Whilst talking about the times when NO weren't talking to each other, Hooky said that he and Bernard have decided not to work together as of six weeks ago. He then inferred that this was probably the end of NO. I think it took Allen (& everyone else) by surprise.

All told it was an enjoyable if not slightly surreal evening. Howard Marks was coming out of the bog before the show, Don Letts was sitting a bit behind us & Rhys Ifans walked past us as we were getting into me car.

Well if that's the case then it's a shame. Although I wonder if that just means they won't record anymore, or whether that includes touring too.

Seems like it would have been bigger news if true though - someone would have said something by now?

Bur it doesn't really mean something seriously...It seems that hooky is found of this kind of ambiguous sentences...

Was the night after MvC wasn't it? Praps that's why Hooky had to bolt early.

Chatted to Mr Alan Wise at the Fall's stop in Reading on their current tour a couple of weeks back. He said that it was all over for New Order. They were going to do one last gig for Manchester but had fallen out bitterly as he put it. To be fair though, Alan may have had a couple of ales! He did however put my friends on the guest list for the Hammersmith Palais gig the following night. Cheers Alan!

I met Hooky on a plane to Gatwick the day after the Hard Rock gig. He was in fine form and spoke to me for about twenty minutes once we were off the plane, posed for photos the lot. He only left me because he was on a connecting flight to Madrid. Anyhow, of course I asked what the plans were for New Order and he was entirely non-committal but certainly didn't say or intimate it was all over (again). He did have a quick dig at Alan Wise though about shambolic gig management in reference to the State Ballroom, Liverpool '83 (my first NO gig) and most gigs since he said! I then asked how Freebass was progressing and he said: "Well it's all done, the recording is all done, the songs are done, we're just having a terrible time getting a decent singer" I said: "Well to be fair, you've had that problem for the best part of thirty years now" he chuckled, and then said: "Well maybe, but you know, the first bloke we had wasn't too bad, but in the end he was just hanging around too much" We both had a laugh. But he certainly didn't say, "Yeah and I'm never workig with that Barney wanker ever again". So who knows........If he's prepared to tell an audience of sixty it's over you'd think he'd happy to tell a starstruck fool straight off a plane........or maybe not.

We had yet another post from you whinging about how you had been in your eyes victimised for posting exactly the same subject matter in a separate thread, and that "your thread" had been deleted rather than this one. In fact we had four separate threads about this same subject, and this one only survived out of all of them because it had more responses to it and more comment, it had effectively been self-selected by the people of this site. It isn't a sleight on you at all, despite how you may want to view it. No threads are deleted without valid reason. The main reason for thread deletion, besides the "dubious content" one that is all too prevalent on BCD, is where a new thread has been started that duplicates the content of an existing one. Sadly you are rather proficient at starting new threads on exactly the same subject, particularly where it is a news item that you are referring to, and as I'm sure you will appreciate, we only need to read the same material once.

You may wish to know that the other two people who had "their" threads on the same subject deleted didn't bat an eyelid.

Hang on a minute... I only post double stuff by accident not intention...

And it was a new angle not just a mere repost... I was wondering how people felt... i.e. Do people feel that things are more final in '07 compared to the finality suggested in '93...

At the very least we should get an email explaining why a thread has been deleted... Or maybe just lock rather than delete a thread?

There was one planned, apparently, a big farewell gig, but it all went tits up.

Why is there so much tension (not sexual, obviously) between Hooky and Bernard. They obviously fell out years ago, but these days they record and go on tour a lot less, so they don't have to spend so much time together... do they really wind each other up so much? Or is it just a case of Hooky getting frustrated at Bernard's apathy to playing live?

Wasn't there similar rumours after the Move 2002 gig?
