Oh my... that is very difficult to chose from in all honesty... both best albums by both bands... Add Depeche Mode's Violator to this and to be honest, 1989 was as good as it gets.

Wasn't Violator 1990?

Disintegration gets very exhausting after the first half. Too many long, mid-tempo songs with Robert Smith caterwauling sans restraint. Wasn't '89 the new summer of love, or something? Technique wins in any event.

Probably will be shot for this, but I think Disintegration was slightly better (but this hasalot to do with me thinking LowLife was the best NO album). Disintigration is strong throughout, whereas Technique has the porn song "Touched by the Hand of God".:uhoh:

Well, Personal Jesus was 1989... just like Fine Time was 1988...

So I guess then we should put it in 1990.

Disintegration is a good record, BUt i prefer "Technique". I think that in 89-90 was a very good year for The Cure, Depeche MoDE, and New order.!!

poor old fat bob

but i think as a DM lover i would confirm that 1989 was not a violator year and as a result would go for new order for sheer fun value over fat bob's caterwawlling as put earlier

but i love disintigration heavily

it's all just a mess for me cos i love them all but technique edges it by dint of not competing with violator

Lullaby, Prayers For Rain, Title Track, and Pictures Of You are fantastic. As a whole Disintegration tends to drag....It's still solid though.

I always thought Violator and Technique had a similar sound at times, and I love both albums dearly..... Also, if you notice, 89-90 was around the time when the sound quality of albums from both bands increased drastically.

Pixies- Doolittle blows them both away:shrug:

I'm really sorry but imo Disintegration pisses all over Technique. No contest really, as Disintegration is probably one of the best albums ever. And it was the first album I've ever bought on cd, so I may be a bit biased.

They are both very important albums from what I consider to be both band's peaks.

I have to go with Disintegration, unfortunately. Every track is vital, wheras "All The Way", "Loveless", "Guilty Partner" are disposable. They just don't hold up to "Plainsong", "The Same Deep Water as You", "Fascination Street" or the title track.
