Can anyone tell me of a good version? How come Bernard struggled so much with this live? Did he not particularly like the tune?
decent live version of Thieves Like Us?

There's a couple of excellent US 83 versions, when they hadn't finished it, that go on for up to around 15 minutes. The Hacienda 20/7/83 is an awesome version, it started to go downhill from 1984 when they cut the intro out and turned it into a three minute pop song though.
Bernard couldn't sing it because it was written in a key he couldn't sing, as were so many of the songs before 87!
the hac 83 version was lyrics in progress ,,, it was great and a shame it wasnt on the play at home broadcast,,,, anyone got the whole show filmed??

It's the second to last Youtube clip in the thread Pope posted, no? It's not complete, though.
I like the debut of Thieves from I-Beam partly because of the awkward guitar bits, partly because of Barney's potty mouth.

Yeah, I understand about the pre-87 bit, but I like his vocal on the record; not perfect, but good. Who's most responsible for the music on this one?

No, it was always Thieves Like Us. They got the title before they'd written the song, on that US 83 tour, it was sprayed on a wall somewhere.

That must have been the bootlegger calling it that then - the tape I got from that one had the correct title (and also called Sooner Than You Think "Aleph").

u're probably right ??? But so which one was once called Murder at the theater ??? HUm .... Alors,d'où sort ce truc ? If i remember, but it's a long time ago now, i think Hooky said ( circa 83/84) talking about TLU, they called the song "Murder at..." before they found the real name...I think i've read it in a Feb.84 interview...
