I'm a bit confused about "Ceremony"

I know there are different versions, but which is which?

I've heard a Live Version, the one on "Substance" and (My favorite) the one on "Singles".

I also recall hearing a low quality version on a Youtube video...

So, which is the one recorded with Gillian and which is the original?

The one on 'Singles' is the original (apart obviously from the JD rehearsal & live versions and also the NO Western Works demo) recorded before Gillian joined.

The one on Substance has Gillian, the one on Singles doesn't.

I'm a bit confused, personally, on the version from 'Heart and Soul'. It sounds a trite like one of the New Order versions played r-e-a-l-l-y f-r-e-a-k-i-n-' s-l-o-w.

"In a simplified way, the green sleeve is the original version, and the cream/blue sleeve is the re-recorded one. However, one needs to look at the groove notation to be certain.

The green sleeve comes in two flavors:

\* G1: Original recording, groove notation: "Watching..", matrix# FAC33A1
\* G2: Re-recorded, groove notation: "This..", matrix# FAC33A1 (possibly)

The reason for G2 was that there were too many green sleeves left over once they re-recorded the version (recycling is good). I'm pretty sure that G2 contains is the FAC33A1 and not the FAC33A2 - though some may exists.

The cream/blue sleeve comes in three flavors:

\* CB1: Re-recorded, groove notation: "This..", matrix# FAC33A1, the track fills the side
\* CB2: Original recording, groove notation: "Watching..", matrix# FAC33A1
\* CB3: Re-recorded, groove notation: "This..", matrix# FAC33A2, the track is smaller

Why CB1 was withdrawn and replaced with CB2 beats me. So, the trick is really to check the groove notation to see what version you have."

actually there are 5 12"s according to the post above. i thought there were 4 diff ones, both versions in both sleeves, now i find out there's a fifth. bugger. though i do have some duplicates - may be lucky!
