Just back from the show, GREAT GREAT, the band was super happy, beautifull version of Ceremony, BLT, Temptation...& Digital !

Brutal was very good, and a second encore...! yep they went back on stage. !

God, I sure as heck didn't think that they'd play Digital. Awesome!

Seems like a good set with one or two surprises thrown in for good measure but equally surprising, no Here To Stay. Maybe they're saving that for Finsbury or Old Trafford.

Also heard from the Livster who apparently was scaring the shit out of the Hookmeister by exposing her considerable mammaries to him at every opportunity, and Cheeky Monkey who kissed Phil Cunningham and got a signed t-shirt. No doubt many tales of wanton debauchery will follow in the days ahead, hopefully!!

"Brutal"???!!!??! "Digital"??!!???!!??! Liv's tits!!??!!??!! Who says the Order live experience was getting predictable???? Pity no reprise for AOC etc., and I wish they hadn't dropped "Lurve Vigilantes", but am starting to get really excited about the summer dates now!!!

A few nice changes although Technique material would have been nice as would something other than BLT off Brotherhood and of course no PK :( but hey its seeming good!

Forgive me for being less than impressed. I was really hoping for a shake up in the set but as far as I can see there's only three changes to the last batch of shows and worse still it's the same f'ing running order!

Where's Here To Stay or even World In Motion? Why nothing whatsoever off Technique? Why Brutal, it's pish. And I can't get excited about Barney singing She's Lost Control or Digital.

Awww, come on: they didn't play "WIM" 'cos the gig was in bloody Paris. HTS they presumably just haven't learned to play live, but, y'know, have faith: the set may be a little different come 9/02. But you're right about "Brutal" - its a crock of shit.

But the last thing you'd expect 'em to play, right?? Did we get "The Vikings", BTW??

Brutal was too slow and oversaturated. Definitely not worth it, I mean in concert. Digital was very good, and Barney's weak voice was compensated by Hooky singing together with him. Great moment, although most people seemed not to know this song.

Did they play "Brutal" completely live? Without any strings or beats from DAT ???

Somehow i can't really imagine how this one could sound live...

Nah, I'm sorry, the set at Finsbury will almost defineately be exactly the same with the possible addition of WIM. Don't get me wrong, it'll be a great day out but it's now patently obvious that they're just going through the motions.

Finsbury along with the other half dozen festival shows look like being their pension. I'll stake my house on never seeing another album or live show after this summer. Which to be honest is probably a good time to quit anyway.

You may well be right Grahame.....mind you some bloke on the WIM site reckons he spoke to Barney after the show who told him they were startng work on a new album in October

The lack of 'Here to Stay' in the set and B.L.T. and True Faith still being in are a major disappointment and shows they're not in the least bit interested in any feedback from the fans.

half agree Hank, but I think in reality if you asked every fan coming through the turnstiles at the gig, the majority would probably hope for BLT and True Faith to be played, and personally, I quite like TF being in the setlist (not keen on the BLT version mind you).

Would certainly have liked to have seen HTS in the setlist though.

I reckon the problem with those same setlists every night is only a problem for us here and for people like Jarvo.

I mean, most of the people who go to their gigs don't know what they've played before.

I was dissapointed with the performance.

She's Lost Control was horrible. Brutal was sounding OK. BLT was was weak shite. Blue Monday was boring.

The crowd was not very excited except in front of Hooky. The band was not in a good shape, and Hook got technical problems.

The venue was sounding very very bad.

Time to give it a rest, New Order.

You're absolutely right. I guess there's very little of those die-hard-fans (like us) who go to those gigs. Remember, there should also be the audience that "only" knows the GetReady-album and perhaps a few singles. So i guess if NewOrder would play a "rarest of"set most of the people would be pissed.

I'm really sick of seeing Blue Monday and Temptation in the set, but it's nice to see, that they put in some rarities like "brutal", "digital" and "she's lost control".

It's certainly worth pointing out that the band are only playing Blue Monday coz they know they'd get whinged at by the less hardcore NO fans if they didn't.

Seek out terminals, El Jarvo, Johnny G, Micky, Liz & co.. We want Chris Z-esque minutiae accounts of the trip. We want to hear everything from whether Barney's still donning the tiger-stripe adidas, to how much was a half-pint of Kronenburg, to whether Gilesy was in key for the Temptation singalong.

OK maybe not, but we eagerly await your reports.

Nah we do!! Lets scrape every last bit we can from these summer gigs and really work hard on our reviews and post-gig analysis! I for one am going to pull out all the stops for a finsbury &manchester review - i expect other diehard fans to do the same.. c'mon its your duty (like a soldier!! ;) )

btw, anyone get any photos of the gigs?

Must admit I enjoyed the Saturday night festivities much more than the gig itself...but that might of been because of my failure to recover from the inevitable hangover.

I thought the gig was OK and highlights were Brutal, SLC and Digital just because it was something different.

Its a great set list in itself, especially if you only plan on seeing them once or twice, but overall its getting abit boring now.

AOC, DNE, EGG, Sunrise - how difficult can it be to add these instead of Close Range, 60MPH, Rock the Track and Love Will?

Mr Jarvis: the "jaded arch-cynic" quip was meant affectionately, and will now be jettisoned entirely following your "still the best band in the world" assertion.

Unless, of course, you like to be thought of as a jaded arch-cynic. In which case we ought to get some t-shirts made up......

I have mixed feelings about all of this.

As I couldn't make it, I'm, in some kind of way, relieved to know I didn't miss too much...

But at the same time, I'm still disappointed I could'nt make it, as I've only seen The Order once (fist Paris gig last year)...

I personally thought it to be one of the best N.O. shows I've seen.

The energy & excitement on stage was mirrored among the local & EX-UK fans. The band seemed to be having the time of their lives - even with Hookys guitar-tech apparently intentionally handing him the wrong instrument on at least 3 occasions, he played directly to and for the fans in what I saw to be a really friendly gig.

Will try to post full review etc tomorrow... tis late now!

I agree with Brother Dale... was a fucking amazing gig, and all those people whinging weren't there!!!

Had the best weekend ever, fucking brilliant...

It sounded more like (to me at least) "this is completely my version" before True Faith, as in a Barney remix. Sounded good though.

Agreeing with Mickey Way. It is becoming predictable. I look forward so much to the gigs but what about that vast catalogue of songs we never hear? Replace Touched, TF, BM, Temptation,BLT, for equally BRILLIANT tracks that are never heard but all from the same time: Sunrise, Shellshock, Subculture, Lonesome Tonight. And if we have a good world cup we've got to have World in Motion!

Make Old Trafford special this Summer with some of those ones. Brilliant band but far too many great tracks that are just never heard anymore. Come on Guys!

Oust "Temptation"??? Don't we all go "predicatably" apeshit every time they do this? And its kinda "predictable" that my heart goes all doo-lally at the "green eyes/blue eyes/grey eyes" bit. Even the much-maligned BLT would be missed: "predictable" chorus sent direct from the stars and all that. Sometimes its nice to know what's coming up.

I actually thought BM was one of the best songs they did on Sunday - I always like the laser show that accompanies it.

I do agree that it would be weird without Ceremony, Temptation and BLT in the set.

I thought the version of TF was really good as well on Sunday but wouldn't be unhappy for it to be replaced by an older NO song.

I think someone mentioned over the weekend that they were practising some old NO stuff which got my hopes up a bit too much and hence the minor disappointment about the set list apart from SLC and Digital.

I am not that Paul Connor of footballing fame, no.

I too go bleary eyed during Temptation so perhaps we'll keep that 1 but like I said, we need something 'old and fresh!' Substance 1987, Brotherhood and Low-Life are rich with classics that are so dear to us all.

I think they should drop playing it but do something more fancy like get a whole bunch of robots to do it in the style of Kraftwerk. I saw them (Kraftwerk) at the Apollo and the bots came on and did 'The Robots'. It was quite extraordinary and rather amusing as one of them seemed a little faulty. Probably a passing taxi radio confused it.

It was all done very hurriedly so there was no malice intended in NOT inviting Jim or his mate in with us.

The promoter was expecting me to say 4 when he asked how many people I wanted to get in to the "aftershow". When I said 25 he just stared at me blankly. "it'll be fine mate - I promise..."

Someone should just have grabbed Jim or told me who he was and there would have been no problem...

With footie hype now almost at fever pitch i wouldnt be surprised for us to get WIM as an encore at Finsbury... of course i guess that largely could depend on how Englands first two games go! - well at Least Barney wont have to sing it! I F ;) we do well in our first two games i'd imagine the footie fans in the crowd would be in fine voice!!
