More on "the split"

Well thank god. Of course, it could just be that they didn't want the secret out this early. But let's just hope Hooky is messing with us.

Hooky is here in Brazil for some DJ sets and he just gave an interview to a news website. I can't be arsed to translate the whole interview but he basically said that was his decision to stop with the band. He also said that he hasn't talked about it with the others and he is getting in touch with them through their management.

Hmmm, thanks for that info. Ricardo, if you get a few spare minutes and it isn't too long a block of text, would you mind translating the part of the interview specifically about the split?

Roughly speaking (I'm no expert translator here), Hooky says:
"I did not speak with the others on the end of New Order", says Peter Hook "I do not know if the others agree with me [ on the end ]"....things had not been friendly between the band colleagues....Hook confirms not to have been in touch with the two bandmates and friends of long standing, Bernard Sumner and Stephen Morris, to argue about the end of activities (for New Order) and suggests that the climate was not of the best inside the group.
There's a lot of discussion about Hooky's upcoming DJ set (how thrilling, I know....), and the a bit of discussion about Control, and how it is powerful film....a brief mention of a quarrel between Corbjn and Hooky, that seems to be dismissed as being a bit of a media beat-up.
Even by New Order standards, this is bizarre - a split mentioned in passing in a radio interview with an ex-Inspiral Carpet, subsequently confirmed on a MySpace blog, a rebuttal from the press officer, then re-confirming the split (reads more like a departure announcement) in a Brazilian website promoting his DJing...can't quite work it all out to be honest!

Perhaps if enough conflicting reports come out from these little sources, the band or its management will have to release some sort of statement--at least once everyone actually knows what's going on, which doesn't seem to be the case yet!
if they make it official, then IT IS official. Best to leave it for now, at the moment it seems to be Hooky alone that's leaving/ending the band.
Wait a minute...split as New Order...but for all the Control publicity including Cannes reform as Joy Division? Clever on Hooky's part maybe!?!

Anyway end of a chapter this week personally; NO "split", Robbie Fowler playing last game at Anfield.
But the next chapter; our baby will be born any day now. :) At least our unborn youngun attended Wolverhampton.
Maybe... Probably means Hooky is sick of putting up with Bernard and probably feels that if Bernard and Steve want to continue they should ALL make some effort to all work together and have fun, otherwise why bother if it is such a pain.
And maybe there is not much positive feedback from the record label either, because the enthusiasm for a follow up record has disappeared and that has him bummed also.
don't know what has been going on inside the band, but if I like to leave my band (especially after 30 years of working together), I'd probably tell it my band mates first before I would mention it on a my space-blog or in a radio interview or to some fans. hilarious acting from Hooky, but maybe he really thinks being a celebrate novelty DJ is his future.

Sure, here are the bits about the split:
G1 – And about New Order? Do you think it's the right time to go separate ways?Hook – Yes... The only thing I'm going to talk about this is... (pause) For me, it was the right time (to stop with the band).
G1 - Is everything alright between you and Bernard Sumner?Hook – Yes, yes, sure. I am okay with him, the best possible on the professional side.
G1 - So what happened with New Order lately?Hook – (Laughs) I can only talk about myself. I felt that it is time to stop. I don't know if the others agree, I've never talked about it with them. We are getting in touch with each other through our management and that's what happened.
G1 - What do you think of people mourning about the end of the band, saying that New Order were an important part of their lives?Hook – (Laughs) I don't mind what they say, New Order will never be a bigger part of their lives than mine. It was a really tough decision for me. I am still in mourning. But I don't know, maybe the others can go on as New Order. We have to wait and see.
G1 - Is it an issue to talk about the split of the band?Hook – Of course it is... What do you feel if I ask about your divorce? I don't even know you! (Laughs) I will choose the right time to talk of what happened, when I feel it's time. But alright, you're doing your job and I am doing mine here, as a musician.
Fookin hell, talking through the management... uhm, wait, just like in the mid-90s... Anyway he must have felt really bad to behave in such a manner, this means we'll never know what really happened before his decision. Of course without Hooky there's no more New Order even if Bernard and Steve want to carry on, still Bernard can do a new side project and involve Steve and Phil if they still feel alright together, call Jez from ACR to play bass and you have something different from New Order but that New Order fans can enjoy. While Hooky found a substitute for Bernard in Pottsy (but still lacking the keyboards), Electronic tracks were excellent, but missed a powerful chorus bass like Hooky's, Jez or any other good chorus bassist (without directing imitating Hooky, which would be ridiculous) can fill a bit of the gap and make a new decent side project. Hooky should recruit Pottsy for Freebass, and voila, we have two good side projects with all the members still around, and shouldn't miss New Order too much. Oh, for fuck's sake, I know the real New Order is another thing, but at this stage of their careers we can be content if something like this happens.

Are you gone totally mad, Pete?
Anyway, at least he'll tell more when he's ready (wrote my previous post before reading the interview).
Still, he's not very credible when he says things are alright between them and then they're speaking through the fookin management.
Today we've learnt a lot more about the split, only a few details are missing, and we'll just patiently wait for Hooky to feel ready to reveal them.
Anyway, let never happen a New Order without Bernard Sumner or Peter Hook. Never! If such a thing happens we should all boycott such a swindle never purchasing any record or ticket.
New Order are Bernard Sumner AND Peter Hook, since the fookin Stiff Kittens.
No Ian? We'll carry on. No Gillian? We'll carry on.
But no Bernard or no Hooky means END OF THE STORY.
to me, it sounds like hooky has left the band and now its up to the remaining members. Doesn't sound like a agreed split, per se.
Yeah, but no Hooky no New Order. It wasn't agreed the last time either, Hooky suffered a lot because of the mid 90s split, would have never happened if it was for him. I remember his happy face, really like going home for Christmas, the day New Order were to play at the MCR Apollo for the reunion, when I told him that was one of the happiest days of my life because I had been waiting for so long for them to come back together and play a gig I could see, he told me he felt exactly like me, and he really meant it. It's bitterly ironic it's his turn to split the band this time, looks like a... REVENGE! Anyway we won't allow a Hooky-less New Order... ever!
Yeah, but no Hooky no New Order
I couldn't agree more. It will be interesting to see how this plays out at the 'Control' premiere.
Also, relations must be seriously strained if Peter is the one giving up on NO.

Hooky is replaceable if he is bound and determined to do this course of action. The ACR bass player would do.

It is sadly fitting that even as we stare into the abyss that is the end of Neworder, nobody knows quite for sure just what the fuck is going on.
Plus ca change.

How about "Drugged Up Electronic Music Without Guitar-Like Bass Lines"
J
Works for me.
Hooky can be replaced if Barney, Steve, the ghost of Gilliam and the ghostier ghost of Ian and Mr. Cunningham who wants to play on the side want to continue the affairs in playing this strange music we have all become attached to.
No one is irreplaceable.....not even in N.O. or whatever it will call itself in the future..

Absolutely ridiculous.
Hooky is irreplaceable in New Order.
Bit dubious of any fan who says he isn't.

New Order without Hook (or Bernard, or Stephen) makes no sense to me. I think that all of the 3 feel the same way (in fact, I HOPE they do).
Maybe we should focus on the new possibilities that may come. Like a Bernard solo (somebody suggested the Chemical Brothers as producers in another thread, which I would really like to hear), Freebass or whatever Stephen has for us. And that's IT folks......
