What if a Hollywood studio had made Control ??

I just had a scary/funny thought about what would the (mis-)cast have been if by some bizarre twist of fate one of the Hollywood studios decided to do a mainstream/"Doors"-y take on the Joy Division legend. Y'know, get Oliver Stone in to do a brash, rock biography of all the myths with cliches that never really happened, using reasonably well known actors who have no idea who they are playing.

Steve - Kyle Maclachlan (he's looked the same for 20 years, just like 'Timeless' Steve)

Ian - Eddie Kaye Thomas ('Finch' from American Pie - didn't know actor's name, had to look it up on IMDB)

Bernard - Haley Joel Osment ('I see dead people' - you're not wrong mate)

Hooky - Jack Black (you know it)

Now that's a movie! (to watch between your fingers). Could somebody with more money than sense just make that...for a laugh? That's got Oscar nominations written all over it.

That's alternatingly frightening and hysterical.

Watching inbetween fingers, indeed - not to mention using someone else's moviewatcher pass to go see it on because you refuse to pay for the monstrosity! Direct to video that'd have to be. Could be a cult classic, though.

Christopher Walken HAS to play Tony Wilson.

It it was Hollywood it would have been utter rubbish, and it probably wouldn't have made it to Cannes, and well, I think it would be a disgrace to the late Ian and the remaining members if Hollywood made it.

Kudos to Anton Corbjin (is that how you spell his name?) for the film, though.

To answer my own question - yes, he was. His movies give me a headache but I could see his sensibilities working on a Joy DDivision film. Maybe

well if hollywood would have made it they would have thought the ending a bit dour and they would have changed it.

And looking at the state of 'Miami Vice' Hooky at Cannes, if Jack Black is unavailable how about Ron Jeremy ?
