I have a advanced copy (at least in the US) of the new Chemical Brothers CD, and listened to it for the first time today. Track 6 appears to be an instrumental electro reworking of "Your Smiling Face" from PCL. It is actually pretty good. I am not certain if this has been brought up already, but thought it might be of interest to everyone.
Now, I am going to see if it is possible to fit in Bernard's lyrics into this version for a great modern version of the song.

Sorry, I meant "Silent" face. Actually, it does replicate the chord structure and that harmonic tone is there as well.
Just played Das Spiegel (track 6 on my cdr)but can only make vague connection with KW1. Track 4 is class grower (funny, even though i've had it on 12"promo for 4 months)

Just checked out their setlist from Tilburg two nights back, cos I'm seeing 'em tonight. Half a dozen of the new tracks are getting an airing.

And then encored with Das Spiegel.
I saw the Chemical Bros a few years ago and they did Temptation as an intro to another song so the New Order factor is always pretty strong with them.
It the Track actually listed as YSF?

Das Spiegel is grammatically wrong. It should be Der Spiegel.

Couldn't hear it on the first few listens meself.
I suppose at a push you could play the YSF keyboard line over the Das Spiegel bassline and it wouldn't sound too out of place but that's pretty tenuous.
Perhaps because there's a melodica type instrument in there...?

Funniest thing was strolling up to the venue at 9.30 tonight to find 2000 people out on the street.
They'd had a fire alarm!
Really didn't think the gig would go ahead as they couldn't have taken the stage till 10.30 in the end. But still did a full set. Which is why I'm here so late now!!!

Well you know Jarvo, much as I like the Chem Bros, I can't help feeling that live gigs for them are a breeze. Do they really do that much up there, the Superstar DJs? I'd guess they turn up, plug in, push the button (hey!) and then it's the same as the last night, exactly. Sure they might put the whooshes and thuds in slightly different places, but that's it. Throw their hands up at the loud bits, dance around, and that's it. I saw them at the Reading Festival once .... exciting for five minutes, then a bit dull.
I do like the albums though, but just a bit old-fashioned when it comes to contemplating them "live".
Can't hear the resemblence myself (Das Spiegel/KW1)? It sounded like a good song at the gig last night, so must get hold of that album somehow! :)
Anyway, got (at least!) two further live performances from them in the coming months (Amsterdam/Barca) - should be good!

I like the bit where they keep wandering off to the side of the stage, looking at the audience like they're really bored.
Those visuals though. The robot army was particularly impressive

i'd heard they'd truncated the encores.
not the first time there's been a fire alarm there - the one last nigth was about 5 mins before they were due on.
groove armada had two shows delayed cos of em recently.
I've heard the track as well. It's not so much as cover version of Your Silent Face as a homage. They use the same harmonica sound that makes it very much inspired by YSF.
The new Chems disc is ACE by the way.

Sunshine Underground had a spirit of/nod towards Temptation in places i always thought.Maybe the Taras Shevchenko live rendition more than any studio version though
edit: Just listened.Maybe a homage in there somewhere but they are clever enough not to make it too obvious
