Whilst wandering around FNAC by the Bastille still a bit pissed due to the post Zenith gig I picked up a CD 586 which is a 22 minute remix of 586 done in 99 by the NO.

It goes on a bit but is quite good for a bit of background thumping.

Anyone else heard it / of it/ seen it / know of it? Was it released in UK and I had my head in a bucket of wifebeater, too mullered to notice ? Answers on a postcard ..

Yes it was released here and i do indeed have this in my collection.I rather enjoy this long ditty but even the fact that this has been out some time i don't play it much.I have quite a few French items in my collection and think that you sometimes get better items over from France. "Video 586" was written to act as backing music to a video that may or may not have been shown on the opening night at The Hacienda. It was originally released in 1982 on a compilation tape called "Feature Mist" that was given away with a magazine called Touch. The tape has the catalogue number T1. Unlike the CD re-release, on the tape it is in two parts, one on each side.

I don't have the original tape, but I do have a hastily re-issued version (on a regular commercial blank Maxell tape) that was put out after the original magazines and tapes were destroyed by a flood at the Touch offices.

To complete your comment, let's say that this NO track was actually programmed by Stephen Morris on his Apple computer. It was indeed intended to be played at the opening of the Haçienda. Later, they built on this rather draft material to make the PCL track "5-8-6".

Video 586 would be a great encore track - all they'd need to do is push a few buttons and Hooky could play bass over the top.

I've edited this track down to about 12 minutes for one of my own compilation tapes - nice!

Talking of 586 the mix that Razormaid did for that 'In Hindsight' compilation is quality and possibly, dare I say it, better than the PCL version.

my copy is also on a maxell, but with printed inlay card etc does anyone have this not on a maxell? (is this the one in the plastic wallet with a popper on it?

I too have the Maxell copy... The re-issue a few years back had both of the instrumentals from the Komakino flexi disc on the 12" (methinks?). Speaking of 586 has anyone heard the forthcoming release on Vapour records by some act who's name escapes me (as does the name of the "song") that samples said work of genius. Being played quite heavily on Radio 1. Hmmmm remembers record label but not other details, how sad is that?

Discreet Campaigns was indeed the one with the popper plastic cover.

The Touch Feature Mist came as a Maxell tape with a little booklet (sort of A5 size) and if I remember right the labels weren't on the tape and you had to put them on yourself!
