British Sea Power are going to call their new album...

Does it feature there colaboration with the wurzels - "I am a cider drinker" ????
The latest addition to the BSP recorded canon is a limited-edition, split seven-inch single, created in alliance with The Wurzels of Somerset. Side A: a Wurzels interpretation of BSP composition Remember Me. Side AA: BSP doing 1976 Wurzels top five hit I Am A Cider Drinker.
The single will be limited to a numbered edition of 1,966 copies - marking the year in which Adge Cutler first set the Wurzels sugar-cart rolling - and will only be available from the BSP shop and the merchandise stall at the band's November tour. The Wurzels will appear as special guests at the BSP show at London Forum on Thursday 24 November.
Here's what the good people at Mojo, NME and Drowned in Sound have to say:
"The art-rock Stakhanovites' take on the scrumpy anthem channels echoes of ages gone by, as heard in a weatherworn old cider barrel, while the Wurzels sound like The Archers' Grundy family in a scene supplied by Betjemen." Ian Harrison, Mojo
"One of BSP's pleasing qualities is their lack of nudge-wink irony, and so I Am A Cider Drinker is delivered in Christmas carol deadpan. On the flip, the old buggers get lashed up and turn Remember Me into a steaming slice of randy-as-a-mare music hall." Louis Pattison, NME
"I Am A Cider Drinker is nothing short of breathtaking, a slow burning ethereal epic complete with choral splendour and glistening spectoral atmospherics." Thomas Blatchford, DiS

I hope this doesn't end up in another grudge match like last time. I visited their site forum and their fans turned out to be very nice and welcoming, if slightly odd people.

semi Housemartins album name rip-off.

Love it!
And on the subject of namechecking existing artits who remembers....
"Astley In The Noose" by The Wonder Stuff and a weird acoustic tune that Peel played a couple of times called "Mark E Smith and Brix", cannae mind the band though.

Would that in fact be very nice, welcoming po-faced librarian wankers, then?

Steady Martin... We'll end up in a
with them.
Librarians maybe, but wankers? I thought everyone did that, even if they don't admit it... ![]()

Al, have that lot got nipples on top of their heads??? ![]()
Better have a few of these then (as usual):

Come on lads. We're not really thugs. Well, the girls aren't. Most of them anyway... ![]()
I'm up for this one.
Never forget my first run in with the 3rdB.
I single-handedly stormed one of their top boys at the MEN. We had a very strange chat about Peter Saville, then I fell over.
If he wants some more, he knows where to find me ![]()

Well, there's nothing remotely po-faced about that pic....
....pig fucking ugly, maybe, but not po-faced.
Anyway, what's so big and clever about dressing like a fucking squaddie on duty??

Oh no, not again! We come in peace. I thought this was all resolved with the ceremonial swapping of Viking and BSP badges between "Johnny Giles" and myself (tho it was rather amusing that before the Interpol Koko gig the Vikings and 3rd Batt met in separate pubs, presumably in case it "all kicked off" - rather like 'home and away' pubs for the football. Our pub was, of course, far superior.

At last, something good has come outta this!! ![]()
Can we swap you for Cath Aubergine, please -- you know what they say about redheads. ![]()
British Sea Power are a great band, and so were New Order.
Contriving some sort of manufactured argy/bargy between the two groups of fans may or may not be mildly amusing/cathartic, but ultimately it all comes back down to one thing only...great music, either recorded or live.
The release of BSP's third album in the pipeline, New Order fans might like to check it out this autumn...

I just don't get why everyone there is so fixated with the 'slightly odd' comment. I suppose we must seem like that to alot of people, but, hey, live and let live and all that.
I'd happily go to a BSP gig. Might even enjoy it. The tracks I've heard haven't been that bad.
Could sit in the corner and watch in a bemused fashion as events unfolded.
Did BSP ever play Wembley?
Oh... sorry, we're talking about a 'pub team' aren't we... ![]()

Indeed, your pub was superior. Mainly because it wasnt a shitty chain pub serving crap beer. But still...
I must say i've seen BSP a few times and frankly, the best gig of theirs I saw pisses on anytime I've seen New Order. Also, "The Decline of..." is easily one of the top five albums of this millenium so far.

Good thread that.Shame they're still using those dreadful Norwich City colours for the forum though :barf: Does Delia own and run that site?

Have you seen our homepage recently?!
I believe it's called babyshityellow. ![]()

Heh heh , and funnily enough the pic that just came up at the top a second ago was Hooky in his YELLOW Brazil top
Awww...a little tiff between 40 year old men facing off from different pubs over the popularity of two bands. Isn't it just precious when lads grow up?

Don't worry, Churchy, we defended your honour.
Well, actually, no we didn't. I was one of the last there. I just remember Kevo sat there one minute, then next thing they've all but disappeared!
(Of course they'll no doubt claim 'a result', that they did 'our pub', say they had 'the numbers', say their boys phoned our boys later but we 'shat it', that it was 'well naughty' and real 'toe-to-toe' stuff, that we didn't 'want to know', etc, etc, blah blah blah!)

After the last wee slagging match I actually downloaded a few of BSP's tracks. To be fair there were a couple that could be considered alright, but I didnae persevere cos some cunt from here told me they hugged tree's and carried flowers about.
This would explain why Liam likes them.
And JAK - please feel free to fcuk off.
And whoever took offence about the slightly odd remark.....surely that has to be tongue in cheek.

The reason that I didn't go to that pub were one because it's a shithole, and two, I can't stand being near that ugly sweaty obnoxious arrogant braging(though with fuck all to be arrogant or brag about) twat ****. I haven't met anyone who makes me want to punch them so much in all my 55 and a half years.
