Republic vs Get Ready

Okay, i'm a new order fan, but dont have many of their albums. recently came across Republic and Get Ready, both $15 each (AU). Which is better, and contains more 'gems'.

I'm starting to lean to Get Ready but just wanted to make sure i'm making the right choice... thanks.

Republic contains Regret and ten fillers.

Get Ready contains Crystal and ten fillers.

Which is better, Regret or Crystal?

I have my Republic on cassette tape. You know those days... I normally play Side A, then rewind it, then play Side A again. I play Side B when I'm about to sleep, so I don't really hear Special and Avalanche that much (the last two tracks), hehehe. Spooky is my favorite track, although the remixes are better.

I have Get Ready on CD. Well, mainly because cassette tapes are already phasing out. Anyway, I do recommend Get Ready more than Republic. GR has better singles, and better album tracks (especially 'Run Wild')!

Yeah, of course i plan on getting both, but money is becoming scarce for me at the moment, and plan on just one of these NO albums for now.

I'd just stop being a tight arse an d spend $30 on both.

Republic for Regret, World, Ruined in a Day and Special.

There really is a down vibe about Republic which I for one don't get.

if you buy republic, all you'll get is regret. yeah.

crystal, 60MPH, Turn my way, Vicious streak, Close Range, primitive motion, someone like you and run wild are my faves...well almost all

Republic has 3 songs I class as amongst their best work: Regret, Spooky and Special.

On Grrready I love Crystal and 60MPH. Vicious Streak is close but some cack lyrics and vocals spoil it a bit.

Republic wins for me.

This is a close call. I think both have merits and duff tracks.

I'd just pip Republic ahead of GR.

Regret, RIAD, Spooky, World, Times Change, Everyone Everywhere, Special and Avalanche are great songs.

Crystal, Turn My Way, Vicious Streak, Primative Notion, Close Range, Run Wild are great songs.

So Republic win it 8-6 on penalties.

A bit difficult as Get Ready is a better album, or aleast has withstood the test of time, but ventures away from the classic NO sound. Republic hasn't aged as well and was great in its heyday, but has lost a bit of its edge over time. But don't get me wrong, it is still a strong album throughout.

So what are you looking for is the real question:

You want the traditional NO sound: Republic.

You want the stronger album: Get Ready

Buy them both! But in all honesty,I prefer Republic.It's NO of old,whereas Get Ready took me a few plays to like,apart from the obviously brilliant Crystal and 60mph.

Forget both and get Pop Trash by Duran Duran!

You GOTTA be kidding me! Look, I am as strong a defender of Republic as anyone else here, but to say that it has the traditional NO sound is totally WAY off base? If anything, they went back to their more traditional sound, which is more rock-y/guitar riffy type stuff, with Get Ready.

Anyway this is a difficult question to answer. If you had asked me this question say, three or four years ago when GR came out, I'd of picked Republic in a friggin' HEARTBEAT! But after allowing GR to grow on me, I can definitely say that although I still have a soft spot for Republic, GR takes the crown but just barely.

I've always been one to like New Order's more electronic synth type stuff ever since I was a fan. Songs like Touched by the Hand of God, True Faith and Blue Monday were among the very first that introduced me to the band. So I would always tend to skip the guitar stuff. But after growing a bit older and listening to Get Ready as well as their older stuff, I began to appreciate their rock style. Thus, Get Ready grew on me like a moth on a slice of stale bread.

Someone Like You and Run Wild are so so SOOO fucking good it almost brings me to tears just thinking about it. Nothing in thier catalog can touch those two songs in my opinion(well, maybe except for Love Vigilantes and Vanishing Point :) )

Anyway I would just pony up and buy both albums. Two very different styles but very well done nonetheless.

Agree about the down vibe about Republic. But that's probably because it isn't really that good. And Get Ready is an absolute stinker IMHO

Strategy:

step 1 - buy Get Ready, fantastic album, can't understand WFTSC at all!

step 2 - buy the singles from Republic with remixes!! The singles are great!

I vote Republic. Despite what people seem to say, it's a pretty strong album. Only track I can't listen to is Liar. Get Ready is a good album, especially if you prefer rock music to electronic music.

If you prefer rock to dance, Get Ready.

If you prefer dance to rock, Republic.

In "traditional NO" I'm refering to the idea that NO is a Dance-music based band, in which Republic is a dance based album. Get Ready is a rock album, which would bring them to their roots of JD and the first couple NO albums, but not the "traditional NO" sound that almost everyone associates them with.

Get Get ready,then go out and buy the entire back catalog,it is better that way.... you know it makes sense!

Glad i've started off quite a discussion here :)

After listening to "Get Ready" instore, i can see how it't not the 'traditional' New Order sound (the traditonal sound here being dance, i mean). With my birthday coming up in the next two weeks, i'll have enough cash to buy both i reckon! :D

Also, at the same store, i'll be picking up Joy Division's "Closer" for $20... mmm can't wait!

1. Substance
2. Low Life
3. Technique
4. Brotherhood
5. Get Ready
6. WFTSC
7. Power Coruption Lies
8. Republic
9. Singles
10. Movement

I agree to start with substance but than, suggest going in order to get a sense of the band's tremendous development.

I like both but haven't listened to either for an age.

Go for what you can afford first, they're all worth having and you'll have plenty of time to pick the rest up.

If 'Get Ready' is first, someone needs to warn you that 'Run Wild' really is crap though

On the contrary, Run Wild is one of my all time favorite NO album tracks. Peace.:)

PC&L, Brotherhood,Low-Life and Movement are the albums that interest me though.
