FAC491 - Hacienda 25 Urbis

Urbis exibition starts on Thursday 19th July and runs until 17th February.

Take a step back 25 years in time to the halcyon days of the Madchester music era and revisit the Hacienda, the legendary nightclub that became an international phenomenon and changed the face of the city forever.

Walk through the world famous Fac 51 doors to uncover some of the ideals and ideas behind its conception, as told by many of the creative minds that made it what it became. Relive the experiences of Peter Saville, Peter Hook, Tony Wilson, Ben Kelly and Rob Gretton through their own stories and items from personal collections, including previously unseen video footage, items from the club itself and the graphic design that was instrumental in shaping the club’s identity. The exhibition also includes the first ever showing of the complete collection of the Hacienda’s iconic birthday posters incorporates original scratch videos by Claude Bessy and Swivel, and of course, will pay tribute to the music played and performed there.

Finally, exhibition traces the impact the club had in shaping the economic and urban development of the city centre, into the unique and original Manchester we know and love today.

Hacienda themed events are organised throughout the exhibition, from talks and debates to film and gig screenings.

An Evening with Peter Hook 6-8pm £3 Join the legendary New Order bassist for an evening devoted to the myths, the mayhem and the madness that surrounded the Hacienda.

Steve, you should Google the Museum and Science and Industry in Castlefild. I think the Dr Who exhibition is still running.

I'd probably be just as into their usual fare to be honest. I still have a clawing, empty feeling that I had to leave the science museum in londinium before pressing every button and pulling every lever when I was 13.....nearly went back there on the moring of NOOLday, but realised I'd not make it to the gig if I did.

No,no,no,it was so much more than that....a legend,a religion,a place of worship,a f....oh,bollox,who am I kidding! It was a fookin' rip-off after '87,£40 for NYE parties,£2 for a bottle of water,how the fook did it go bankrupt??!! Still,it was part of my life & is close to my heart,had some memorable nights there & therefore I shall be paying homage.Better dust off the raincoat....

Really really good from the start to the credits at the end

Top night too - lots of faces I've not seen for years.

Spent FARR to long talking to them all.

Honourable mention to Bill and Ben, who are lovely blokes - looking forward to seeing them again at their Larrnden show or whenever I'm in the smoke.

Andy's done a great job. Will certainly be going back for another look.

Man of the match was me for stopping myself from nagging Peter Saville too much (in my opinion, if not his!) Just like I imagined him to be. To cool for school.

EDIT: £55 based on heading over for Hooky talking shite, and that holds for a 1 2 or even 3 night trip. So, time to see if I've wore out me welcome at the Horwich Hilton :D

It really was a great night from start to finish. We spent the first hour watching Hooky DJ, then ventured upstairs. There was so much to read and look at that you find yourself wandering round and having to go back for a second look later on!

Full credit to Big Clive/Alex the Red for his entertaining but libellous (that doesn't look right) stories. Then went back inside to have a second look at the exhibition. By late evening people had been taking advantage of the bar and there was some serious dancing going on. For me the best bit was watching Hooky from the Balcony playing 'I wanna give you Devotion' and seeing everybody start dancing as if it was the Hacienda again. The Urbis cleaners would be grumbling today, beer and wine was being sloshed everywhere!

Celeb wise - saw Hooky (natch), Ian Brown, Shaun Ryder, Rowetta, Graeme Massey, Peter Saville, Bill Holding, the cock of some school, and a lot of faces I recognised but couldnt' put names to.

NOOLers - Big Clive, Iowona (Girl Afraid), the neatly shorn Jack and girlfriend, er, I think that's it. Although somebody kept 'seeing Rocket Mick'.
