Just sat listening to Ceremony. For the first time (don't know why) I really listened to what he does on the hi-hat, especially in the first 30 seconds. Maybe I'm just simple, but I thought it was f**king brilliant. Any suggestions as to the New Order or Joy Division song featuring him at his very best? Give reasons if you want. Just for fun kids, okay?

The drumming on Transmission and Age of Consent is absolute class. He works like a Trojan on In A Lonely Place, notably on the Saturday Live broadcast although Barney wasn't overly impressed. :D
I have to agree, I listened to Ceremony a few months ago after upgrading my speaker cable and the drumming is just amazing. I dont know how he does it.

Ceremony, Transmission, Denial, The Only Mistake, Colony, the list of great Steve Morris drum tracks is very long.
Not only is he a great drummer, he's a great programmer, his attention to detail on hi hats in particular is amazing, the hats on all day long and, even though the rest of the song is cack, shellshock are fantastic.
he really is a very underrated drummer, and probably owes a lot to hannett, as do the others, but they didn't realise at the time (can you tell I've just read who killed martin hannett?)
He's always been a good drummer but I actually think his most interesting drumming was on 'Get Ready'.
And he's so damn good looking...

i always liked the drums on Sunrise
he was pretty poor on the WFTSC album though, several songs with identical rhythms (notably Krafty and the title track)
Jed, you're right. He (and all the others) learned a lot from Hannett.
(Just finished reading "Who killed Martin Hannett?". Amazing book.)

I agree, I probably would be too nervous to talk to Barney based on his reputation of being a mercurial bastard, me and Hooky would probably talk good beers for 20 minutes, and Gillian would just smile and nod at everything I say....I would love to pick Steve's brain, how he gets all those brilliant drum sounds, what equipment/gear he used to program those great drum loops/patters and sequences. An absolute genius. Just try to imagine New Order with some sloppy-ass hipster who specializes in swing/jazz rhythms.

I think he's also the only member of NO who would last 20 mins in a "real" band.
Stephen Morris is truly the God of Drums. Most underrated musician ever. His creativity & variety on both kit & programming is genius. I can't think of another drummer who's made so many different patterns and sounds. And he's funny too, when pushed to an interview.
Oi, the only reason why Jeff beat me to here was 'cause I wasn't online for 2 days straight. ;) Too many concerts for my own good.

Sunrise, Primitive Notion and in 2005 his drumming on Later with Jools Holland when they performed Transmission showed that he still has it, awesome underrated musician
