HI FELLOW FACT-ers.But just before i go can you tell me which is your BEST NEW ORDER related item and why?The more items you get the more difficult it becomes.For me it is all the 12inch records in a row,most with plastic covers on them.I do play them from time to time but CDS are easier.As a side note i only own ONE pre-recorded minidisc and that is for TWISTED TENDERNESS.What else was released in this format. Gold Factory Records badge. Badge was distributed late eighties, quite rare.
10" Acetate of 'Blue Monday' ... approx. 10 different coloured 7" 'Everything's Gone Green' singles ... 'Run 2' 12" ... 12" 'Blue Monday' with no floppy disk die-cut and 1 x 12" 'Blue Monday' with 'The Beach' on Side A and 'Blue Monday' on Side B (i.e. a mistake) ... Gold Ceremony 12" + White cover ... Many QWest versions of all 12" Singles up to 1990 ... Offical letter from Factory Records 1985 ... lots of stuff really, but the badge is the coolest item.
Needless to say all items mass-released, in PVC, un-tainted ... pristine. A total of approx. 200 items.

I attended a succession of record fairs where several vendors had stock of 'Everything's Gone Green'. Each time I picked them up I thought great, this is a different colour to the last one I bought. This occurred in a space of a couple of months so someone must have had a stash of these vinyls and sold them all quickly over a short space of time - I've never seen any since and this was around 1986! - incidentally, the fairs were held in the north and the vendors were all from around manchester.
Not attempting to make you jealous, I think I just got lucky on that one, also, paying a mate of a mate £20 sheets for the gold Ceremony 12" which looks excellent. At the time 20 large was nothing to be scoffed at but I thought 'what the hell' I'll only regret it in years to come if I don't buy it now.
Evidently the 'Blue Monday' '88 'Flick Book' is arguably the rarest piece of New Order merchandise, that and 'The 12 inches of New Order' (which as I'm sure your aware, was a ruler).

One thing I couldn't do without would have to be my coveted Temptation 12".......sad, but true;)
I have one EGG 7" beige background, purple type is it rare? I wouldn't have thought so as I didn't pay much for it.

yes! the odd curved shape is also purple, I wouldn't say the card was perticularly distressed.

Unfortunately haven't got the picture cover to the 7" mate - although I do have the single in a plain sleeve...probably bought from a record stall, my Uncle John has the picture cover - but he wouldn't part with it for love nor money.......bastard!
Apparently there were 7 or 8 different colours for EGG/Procession, I have Yellow, Purple & Green ones
I have the speckly 7" of Temptation which was an answer to SHUGZV quiz the other night.As i said at the time and u will now probably understand it was hard for me to read the FAC number on the back of cover due to my BLUE/GREEN colour blindness.Did u ever go to the RECORD PEDDLAR 20a SWAN ST MANCHESTER.A lot of my FAC 53s i got early 90s or late 80s. I've got the blue speckly 7" of Temptation as well as the Blue Monday / The Beach 12" the wrong way round so to speak.
Did have a Fac 51 badge but have lost it unfortunately.
SHUGZV there are at least 11 colours if you include a couple of rare ITALIAN and over overseas covers.There are also those from other shores that have NEW ORDER in top left hand corner so the punters would know who it was. i have 7 and still looking. FAC 53s are out there and i will get them the hard way! ROCKET MICK
Surely something which is rare is something which is in demand from the collector. If someone owns an item, then that item becomes not as rare to that person as it once was, if someone doesn't own an item then it is rare, provided he or she cannot obtain it easily. The original 7 and 12" releases were quickly obtained by NO fans, thus, a great many of us own these records so they don't appear to be very rare. Start seraching for these records now and you'd struggle to find any if at all save a couple of odd items at record fairs. So to recent NO fans these early editions are most definately rare ... and particularly difficult to locate.
Concering money, an item worth 50pence in a boot sale could be worth £500 to the collector. Obvious but correct.
I passed on the opportunity to buy a vast collection of almost all JD items in pristine condition some 15 years ago thinking I would easily be able to find them later in life when I had more than £1.50 to my name. I've got about 6 quid now and they aren't in any shops or fairs stocking JD originals ... which makes them all very, very rare.
Rocket man I did not visit this shop to which you indicate as a real belter. Although, I'm sure we all experienced at least one shop near us that was 'the best' i.e. the shop that stocked the music we were into. I had a shop near to where I lived that always stocked ample NO and JD and The Smiths. Accordingly I bought everything I could ... which leaves me in the nice position of deciding to myself whether I prefer my yellow inner 12" 'Perfect Kiss' sleeve or the magenta one, or perhaps the original silver 7"? ... which, so I'm told, is exceedingly rare.
Sadly, Mark Eastwoods' shop "The Record Peddler" ceased trading many years ago - I'm still in touch with him luckily and hope to clear him out of anything he has left sometime in the near future. I obtained alot of the collection I once had from this shop until I was lucky enough to get my own Factory "connection". in the early 90's.
As for what's rare & what's NOT rare; you have a fair point there Huntsmen. It has surprised me just how cheap N.O. & J.D. stuff appears to be these days. In the 80's & early 90's items seemed to be considerably MORE expensive (literally) than they are now. I suppose that reflects the interest in those bands in terms of collectability.
The bottom did fall out of the market quite some time ago.Everything was expensive back late 80s.I used to be in contact with MARK quite a bit and got some great but expensive stuff from him.Now it is easier via the internet to find and buy your desires.I know whay u mean by rare. The problem is what to do with it all eventually? Rocket Mick
