Pottsy selling more stuff...

Those of you in driving distance of chez Pottsy should take a long hard look at that Soundcraft Ghost, it's a LOT of mixer and the mic pre-amps are second to none.

Got my eye on a little something.

that pro one synth,it cant be the one used on (aoc can it)?? sure gillians playing it on the switch program aired at time of pcl coming out. if it is i think ill be chuckin my hat in the ring for it.

New Order used a Prophet 5 on Switch and live at the time, a different (and polyphonic) beast and likely to cost a lot these days. Pro Ones are monophonic but make some meaty analogue noises.

I want that Gibson so much I feel sick each time I think about it.

I spotted it just after drooling over the Fender Jag that Johnny Marr's clutching on the front page of a magazine I bought at the airport so it hit me quite hard.

Never even seen one of those Gibsons before. It looks like the same sort of idea as a Jag, but a bit cooler (and, I would guess, rarer).

How much is it worth? Anyone know? Any good?

Note I will NOT be buying it. No way. Nope. Not in a million years.

Native Instruments Pro53 is a much better option, stays in tune too ;)

I have the bass version of it (Thunderbird)

On the bass, the pick ups are absolutely fantastic and its the best axe I own

the ghost was used for the "monaco" album and is in top condition, its only been moved twice, the pro 1 IS ex new order, and an exelent bit of kit,was also used on "monaco" album, the firebird is THE nicest guitar i have ever played, my personal favourite of his colection and worth in the region of £750.00, i would be buying all of the above if the wife and i were not expecting the arrival of another child, thems the breaks eh

I've just dropped Pottsy a line to see if it's the same one as used on Closer and later on Blue Monday because if it is it'll go for a vast amount!

Looks like it's in excellent condition. Bidding is up to around £230 so far. Al's former Steve Morris E-mu Procussion module update: even with the manual, how do you get your head around this thing, Steve?!

They're not rare, but v.nice guitars nonetheless. The comparison with the Jaguar isn't quite right, apart from the fact that they are both unusual body shapes. Jaguars are pretty bright and jangly sounding, with single coil p/ups. They have a floating tremolo system that gives some amazing sounds if set up right. Very verstaile guitars - you can get anything from a vintage surfy sound to a big crunchy fuzz.

The Firebird is more yer standard Gibson humbucker sound - quite dark, great with overdrive. I think they're a bit more 'chimey' than the likes of SGs and Les Pauls, and maybe better if you want to mix in clean sounds too.

I have very good news. The Pro-One is indeed the one used on Closer as David mailed me back earlier to confirm it was. The inestimable Brian Edge - in his book Pleasures & Wayward Distractions - described side two of Closer as "awash with synthesisers" and this here Pro-One is one of them!

It, therefore, is probably the beast that produced classic parts on Heart & Soul and Isolation. It is also possibly the one used on Blue Monday and Confusion. Given that most of the kit used on BM was either nicked or sold off years ago, this is indeed a sought-after bit of kit. If I had the dosh I'd bid myself.

I used to own a Pro-One way back when and I'm pretty sure they weren't around till 1981 - so it post-dated 'Closer'. Prophet 5's were everywhere though (except in my home). Joy Division used ARP.

I also owned a Boss DR55 (Dr. Rhythm) drum machine, which could trigger the clock time on the Pro-One. You can hear one on 'Everything's Gone Green' - so possibly the Pro-One does the sequenced part in that. I'm just guessing though.

Vince Clarke used a Pro-One on Yazoo records - it has a particular crystalline quality to the sound.

My band used to rehearse in the same studios as XTC circa 1981 and that was the first time I saw a Pro-V in the flesh. It was the technology of the gods back then.

More on the Pro-One Here. Definitely started being produced 1981 so it couldn't be on Unknown Pleasures. I'm with Jeff in thinking they mainly used ARP at that time.

Joy Division used a Transcendent 2000 not the Pro-One.

That's strange as I remember reading an interview with the Order in a music mag years ago when Barney stated that the synths used on Closer were (and I quote) a Sequential Circuits Pro-One, an ARP Quadra and a Powertran Transcendent 2000, the latter of which he built from a kit. I've even found something about that top interview on the web here.

Even if it wasn't used on Closer, I'd say there was a decent chance of it featuring on Blue Monday/other tracks from the P, C and L era and Confusion because Arthur Baker was keen on them too. They triggered the Quadra from the Dr. Rhythm for that sequenced feel on EGG and Temptation. Steve later described it as "Mickey Mouse" when teamed with the dodgy sequencer they had then. This was the setup used on the second Peel session and was later nicked in New York or somewhere. Apparently they weren't insured either and nearly £50k's worth of kit went walkabout! They were obliged to buy new stuff and it was "a lot more advanced". Might this be the Yamaha stuff used from Low-Life for a while?

Yup, Clarke plays a Pro-One on Only You on Top Of The Pops. Juan Atkins loved his so much that he said he'd continue to use it even if it fell apart as long as it made a noise!
