I just found out I will be going to Manchester next week on a business trip. Never been there before and wondering what kind of sights and/or experiences would one New Order / Joy Division fan recommend to another?

Dry bar is poor, yup. Me and Leggy went in there last Sunday. They were shutting up early but we told the guy behind the bar that we were havin' a drink for Tony. He told us to go and that Dry had nothing to do with Tony Wilson!!
Thanks for all the great suggestions! Sounds like Urbis is first on the list, but I am going to print out this thread and bring it with me. So if you see a 'yank' walking aimlessly down the street looking at a printout, be sure to say hi ;)

If you go to see the old Hacienda site go down on the canal behind, there is a timeline of factory/new order events on the wall of the car park for the apartments.
Look inside Dry for an idea of how it was then walk away, its full of scrotes these days.
Check out the cathedral grounds. Snowy JD photos from '79 i think.
Oh, and checkout the old Thunderdome further up the road from Dry, if its still there? Pips / Konspiricy club now gone.

last weekend i was walking through there and there must have been about 400 emos all there in their "my chemical romance", "lostprophets" and "the used" hoodies
it really is emo central down there

yeah.. they usually tend to be kids who have everything yet seem to think that no one understands them and no one cares about them
so they address the problem by dressing in a really silly way and sitting next to urbis all day every saturday and sunday

One of them's my future step-daughter Hannah! She hangs around there and The Gasworks across from Hacienda. WE might have a nice gaff,but I ain't rich.
