Some Thoughts on WFTSC, Republic, and the "Break Up".

Just a few things I have been thinking about.

1. Republic is in fact New Order's danciest album. The second half of the album is totally dance oriented, even the few slower numbers. While Technique is New Orders best album, I love Republic and think its very underrated. True....Hooky is lost on it....but lyrically its Sumners best work and it has some of his best songs.....Regret, Ruined in a Day, Everyone Everywhere, Times Change, Liar, and Special...possibly one of the greatest of all New Order songs that is overlooked.

2. It makes me sad to see so many people slagging off WFTSC.

I think that WFTSC is one of New Orders best albums. The songwriting on the album is wonderful. WE have the awesome moody New Order songs....Who's Joe, Hey Now What You Doing, Turn, WFTSC, we have some really awesome Rock-Electro hybrid songs.....Morning, Night and Day, Dracula's Castle, we have three classic New Order Electronic dance songs.....Jetstream, Guilt is a Useless Emotion, Krafty, and one strange out of place but cool NO song...the electro-reggea hybrid I Told You So.

I love WFTSC. Its my second favorite New Order album, behind Technique. I can listen to it all the way through and enjoy every song. I dont think its uninspired at all. I think its am awesome album. Period. Jetstream is one of my all time favorite New Order songs. Its classic dance pop. If it a younber band like the Killers had done it, it would have been a huge hit. It was a big dance hit here in the US though, as was Guilt is a Useless Emotion.

3. I think New Order will eventually get back together....even if just for some fairwell shows. Hooky says that he and Barney have sorted it out and are getting along well now...and even if Hooky doesnt go on...I think Barney, Steve, Gillian, and Phil could make a great album. it would not have Hookys awesome bass....but it would still be good. Barney is a good songwriter.

I really do think that in a few years...Hooky will want to play with New Order again. They just need time to cool off.

I agree with you republic and wftsc are great albums and i hope after sometime timeoff they get backtogether.

I like PCL a lot. Ecstacy, AOC, and 586 would be my favorite songs from that album. Ultraviolence too.

WFTSC is good, but I prefer Get Ready. It was ballsier. Crystal, Primitive Notion, Someone Like You, and Close Range are unbelieveable.

Back to the point, Technique seems to be danciest album on my list, but I do agree that songs from Republic like Regret, World, Spooky, and Young Offender to sound dancy. However, everything from Republic on shows how NO has changed its direction as a post-punk/synth pop band. You have the downfall of Factory, and the replacement of Gillian by Phil which steered NO into a more guitar-oriented sound. Not to mention that the equipment used by the band differed.

About Barney's songwriting: I think that it went downhill from Republic on also. I mean, Times Change was a real anomaly since it's a rap song and with the words "yellow fever, yellow hay." Crystal had the misplaced "it" (Here comes love, it's like honey/you can't buy it with money) and GIAUE had the comparison of real love as gold.

I disagree... "Republic" is the worst New Order album. It sounds like Pet Shop Boys. A very pasteurized production.

Eeh... A "good" album only. There's one "top" song: "Turn". The others are like "aborted songs" from "Brotherhood" or "Technique", except "I Told You So", "GIAUE", "Jetstream" and "Working Overtime".

With the exception of Regret, which is classic N.O, I hate Republic with a passion. I have only ever listened to it once the whole way thru' on it's release.

Ruined in a day is not only the worst N.O song ever but possibly the worst song ever!!

I like most of WFTSC but give some of the 'danceier' tracks a skip, particularly Guilt is a useless song, sorry emotion; I told you so and Dracula's Castle!

I totally agree. Here are some other New Order TRUTHS

1. Everyone raves on about Technique but to me it's a disappointing record. Only 8 tracks long and sounds patchy. My copy also has a defect where a sheep starts bleeting toward the end of the first track.

2. Jetstream is classic New Order. If only the Scissor Sisters were around when Temptation was being recorded I feel everyone would have benefited.

3.I speak for everyone here when I say how disappointed we all were not to see "World In Motion" on Republic.

4. Why don't New Order release a Singles Collection? Did you know that singles do not appear on ANY ALBUMS.

5. Republic is the most crafted & delicately produced record I've ever heard. You can hear the instruments and passion in every song. This is a true "band" record where you can hear the players enjoying the recording. The vocal on Regret is disappointing though and I feel that maybe if Moby had been available we could have had another New Dawn Fades. Bettering the original.

I totally agree with you on most points. To me, WFTSC is one of New Order's best albums. I think Republic is way too underrated. Special is one of my all-time favorite songs that New Order has ever done. It still sends chills up my spine every time I listen to it and I love it when music has that effect on me.
