Ridiculous Blue Monday Prices & Claims... — Forum Archive

Been idly browsing EBay and as always, looked through the New Order stuff.

Copies of Blue Monday 1983 are ranging from 99p to £26 for a 12" single

All of them claim to be the 'original UK pressing, Fac73'

Non Die Cut sleeve, Silver Inner - £1.99 plus p&p

Die Cut Sleeve, Black Inner - £16 plus p&p

Die Cut Sleeve, Black inner - £16 plus p&p

Die Cut Sleeve, Silver Inner - £26 plus p&p

It goes on... I always thought the original pressing was the last one I mentioned, but happy to be corrected. I've got copies of all the versions, so I won't be bidding, but even I couldn't justify the £26 price tag, plus p&p...

Anyone got any definitive info on this? I'm sure the copy I bought in 1983 was die cut and had a silver inner, but that was 24 years ago and my brain doesn't work too well. The Music Browser here says Die cut was the original, so what colour was the inner? :scratch:

am pretty sure it had a black inner sleeve, not silver.

fac73 die cut, it's the original with black inner-sleeve!

I bought mine on the day of release and it is die cut with a silver inner sleeve.

Its amazing that someone would pay £26 for a record you can pick up for 99p. Its probably from a second had record shop and cost the seller 99p!

You'd be surprised - the die-cut versions are worth quite a bit of cash nowadays... :crazy:

Well it looks like that's cleared up by concensus. Thanks everyone - it's always nice to think my memory isn't that bad. Still ridiculous prices though. :eek3:

Yeah, general consensus is that the silver inner was the original.

I've got one of each. Looking to sell the black one. Any takers? :deal:

American release Ric, or UK? These were all UK I found on EBay... :shrug:

Edit: found two copies in my local Oxfam shop today - 50p each - both die cut, one silver inner, the other black. Silver inner was actually in better condition!

Considered saying to the old dear at the counter, 'Hey, that's worth £26 to someone who knows no better'. Instead, I bought both for a pound, gave a 50p donation and ran :laugh:

You got a bargain - the die cut silver one went for similar amounts of money (to the one you found on ebay) recently from Vinyl Exchange - i.e. they had it last week, but it's no longer on sale (I didn't buy it, btw).

My friend bought it on day of release and it was die cut with silver inner. Mine was a while later and was die cut with black inner.

But does that mean I could buy the one with silver inner for £1.99, swap the silver inner sleeve with mine, and then call it an 'original die cut with silver inner' and flog it for £26??

Makes me wonder if ANY member here hasn't got at least one copy of the first and/or second pressing of BM... Maybe they should post at blue monday owners club and help the guy out with his 'art' project :)

well i have the same ones too but i have just noticed that the bass drum intro is different on mine one has two DD before the DDDDDDDD and the other has DDDDDD DDDDDDDD

IF YOU UNDERSTAND THAT!!!

who else has counted the bass drum intros on different versions like substance etc?or am i just too scientific?

And mine are UK pressings. I only collect Factory stuff.
