So it's Stevenage or Cambridge for me. Could've seen it with the Corby Order if they were prepared to do Peterborough if it was showing there. I'm pretty pissed off about this.
Why didn't they do some research to find where there are concentrations of JD fans?

If this sort of bitching about not being able to see a little art film became a habit, England might get itself a decent national film culture again.
I've just come back from watching the advance showing in Macclesfield. You know it's a home fixture when everybody cheers at the opening caption ' Macclefield 1973'.
I couldn't get over the age range of the audience. I was expecting lots of forty-somethings and a smattering of hip kids, but pensioners? Were they Ian's neighbours or something?
The film's attention to period is spot on and the use of actual Macclesfield locations adds gravitas. The B&W photography is stunning, as you might expect. I never saw Joy Division live, but the concert scenes looked utterly convincing.
I know everybody is obviously partisan around here, but this film is a beatiful piece of art in its own right. My only criticism is that, at two hours, maybe it needed pruning.
The audience burst into applause at the credits.
On the lighter side, just had a call from Jarvo, him, JG and a couple of other Vikings are over there on a stag weekend. Sam Riley was on their flight and spent a bit of time yapping away to them, he couldnae believe that Jarvo's seen the film twice in the last couple of nights. Top lad by all accounts, and apparently life is imitating art imitating life as Riley is going out with the bird that played Annik......oh, and "he's a short arse" was also mentioned 
What a load of old crap...
To watch a movie I have to travel from Southend to London or next nearest Stevenage.
How come it is not being shown in the whole of Essex? I don't think it is being shown in Kent either.
Some much for all the hype as obviously they don't think it will appeal to people outside the cities particulary in the South.
Well, at least it plays in England... I'm starting to wonder why I didn't make the trip to Toronto 
Saw it this afternoon with a grand total of nine other people in the audience. Sound and vision kept going out of sync which was reallyfuckingannoying.
Have to confess - my initial fears from the trailers were confirmed and I found it hard going, what with Sam Riley looking far more like Steve Morris than IC, and no-one else looking particularly like who they were supposed to be playing.
The last 5 mins were genuinely touching though.

Peterborough is a decent size city so I would've thought it would be on there. It would have a big catchment area too.
The cinema in March is the AV system in my lounge Or it may as well be cos the cinema only shows stuff months after it's been out and is only open Monday and Tuesday, the sound is shit and you sit so far from the screen cos it doubles up as the bingo hall, you need opera glasses.

Went to watch the film in Milton Keynes.Crap town ,but great cinema. Superb film in every department.Myself and the othe 14 members of the audience had a great evening. Nachos weren't up to much though.

Bit harsh, Clive? Granted, it's not as good as many critics are claiming (I didn't love it immediately like "24HPP", for example), but still largely stunning. Spot on about the closing sequence, mind: several people blubbing very loudly for the last 10 minutes when I saw it in Manc yesterday....
...though that might be due to the appearance of my monstrous mush during "SLC" and "Dead Souls"....
I've just checked the listings for every cinema in Ireland - North & South. Its playing in 2 screens in Dublin & one in Belfast - thats all!
& the two screens in Dublin are both city centre - only 1/2 mile apart.
It's OK for me on Dubland, but I pity those in Cork, Limerick, Galway, Derry & all points inbetween - i would't fancy the 200-300mile+ round trips they would have to endure just to see this.
Saw it last night in Stevenage - luckily only 15 minutes away from my house in Hertford.
Have to say the Stevenage Cineworld was pretty empty last night for the 6.25pm showing. Think there was only about 10 people (including me) watching Control. At least I had the pick of the best seats! However, pretty poor for the opening night of a film - or maybe just not many Joy Division fans in the Stevenage area. How full have cinemas been in other UK towns for Control?
I don't know why everybody tries to paint Macclesfield as the grimmest place on earth. It's just a fairly typical northern ex-mill town surrounded by posh villages and rolling hills (which looked curiously odd in monochrome). I've read a few comments elsewhere that the depiction of Manchester wasn't dark enough. That's because most of the external shots are Macc.
I don't live there, by the way. I'm in Stockport up the road (which has its own JD/NO connections).

Not too sure about going to see this. Looks visually amazing, but I doubt it'll be a laugh a minute plus we all know what happens in the end, don't we?

To balance that I should point put that having to stop myself several times during the film to work out who certain people were supposed to be was the only thing that bothered me.
On the plus side, the recreation of the era in general and some of the locations in particular were outstanding. The 'Transmission on the TV' scene is an obvious example - you could see that cast and crew had studied that hard and nailed it. Ian's moves and even the camera angles were spot on.
I wasn't sure whether letting the 'band' play the music themselves was going to work - but it did. To have them mime over a recording would have looked shite. So 'Ian' didn't really sound like Ian - but who does?

Going there Sunday evening (possibly nearest one to Southend) 9:15 kick off so I expect to be home about 1:30am

I was trying not to be too much of a Joy Division spod as facts inevitably have to be compressed to fit into a film BUT ... they did Shadowplay on Granada. Transmission and She's Lost Control were for a BBC yoof programme
Yes exactly - the Granada Reports intro has become fused with the Something Else performance. Maybe the actors couldn't play Shadowplay!

Some SPOILERS here so you have been warned. Saw it at Stevenage yesterday - me and 7 other people 2 of whom I went with. I thought it was good but Ian being 'one of the lads' doesn't really come across. There is enough in Torn Apart,Touching from a Distance and what we all know to make the film. So why use Transmission for the Granada Reports part, the hypnosis scene is rather pointless and the inclusion of a fit before 'the end' is surely speculation.
Took mini Hac to see it tonight, went to The Phoenix again but steered clear of the bar this time. About 50 in tonight and the girl behind the 1950's ticket counter said there was about 150 in last night. Mini Hac started crying when LWTUA was played and didn't stop till the film finished, great film with excellent actors and highly recommended.
Does anyone know where i can get her a control film poster from?

I dunno about 'speculation': I thought this was just a rather clunky way of hammering home to the less attentive viewer the fact that Ian had various 'problems' so we knew why he topped himself. One of the few weak points in the film, IMHO.
After all, doesn't Debbie's book say that there was only an inch of whisky in the bottle and that he spent the night alone (ie - they didn't have one last blazing row just before the washing line started to seem like a useful way to accessorize, 70s style??)
