went to the 9:15pm showing last night in Stevenage and I counted a total of 12 people.

I normally full asleep at the cinema,lose concentation or keep checking my watch but can safetly say that I sat through the 2 hours transfixed.It was a very moving film and I thought the acting was first rate.

Not sure about the uplifting ending that some people have gone on about.

Me and my two mates left the cinema without saying a word

I saw it at the UGC in Glasgow last night. Cinema was pretty full, bumped into a bunch of folk I know and managed to succesfully avoid someone whose annoying laugh I recognised during the film (haven't seen him in years!).

Thought the film was boring. As did the other folk I met.

Out of all the cinemas in my area - Rugby , Coventry , Nuneaton , Leamington , Stratford Upon Avon , Northampton and Birmingham there is only one (1) cinema showing the film.That includes 3 cinemas in Coventry and 12 in Birmingham!!! The only cinema showing it is the Cineworld in Broad Street , Birmingham.

There were quite a few people in the cinema when i went to see it.But i think that's down to the fact that the Cineworld in Broad Street , Birmingham is the only place in the WHOLE of the Midlands that is showing it.

I disagree that it's right to have the film in black and white.To be really authentic it should have been in that colour yet murky , dark and blurred style like much of the footage in the Here Are The Young Men video compilation.I'm half serious there.It is beautifully shot though , yes, and the scenes when the band are Joy Division are superb.Was a bit dissapointed with the (intended) swap of Shadowplay to Transmission on Granada

'Tony Wilson' was nothing like the real Tony.Slightly like Alan Partridge's Wilson in 24HRPP in a couple of lines if anything, as has been previously mentioned.

The actress that plays is Annik is stunningly beautiful.Good god.

To be honest ,on first watch, the playing of Atmosphere after Ian is found dead came across as a celebration that he'd died ffs!! I know it's a song we all associate with him dying but it just struck me at that point in the film as not quite right for some reason.

What i found sadder are scenes like when Debbie makes Ian a drink and then he refuses to open the door to her , doesn't even acknowledge her.And his "what are you doing here?" on a couple of occasions- when she turns up in the dressing room after a gig and when he finds her in his writing room.

There were about 15 people in Cambridge last night for the film... And a fair few of them had trench coats on Agree that it was beautifully shot, but I wasn't enthralled as I had expected to be, the band live were better than I expected and it wasn't as hugely depressed as I had feared, but there was definitely something missing... Although given the amount of input from people who knew and loved Ian, maybe that says more about our expectations as fans than anything else... The cover over the end credits was shite though...

I watched Control in a packed cinema in Brighton last night. People were sitting on the floor!!!

Beautifully shot. But I thought it was lacking something... I felt that there was no "chemistry" at all between the guy that played Curtis and either of his love interests. Thought there were no significant relationships at all actually...

All style over substance for me, I'm afraid. A real missed opportunity...

Yeah , maybe it is a bit.I'll probably enjoy it more on second viewing though i think.Like when i saw 24 Hour Party People for the first time i was too critical.

I do need to go and see it again, if only to see the bit I missed when I went for a piss (where Annik was interviewing the band and getting quite cosy with Ian). I know it's supposed to be a film, and films aren't supposed to deal too closely with the truth (or so it seems!) but there are a hell of a lot of bits that seemed unsatisfactory to me. Maybe I'm being ubercritical but I was expecting more.

I was thinking that I was being a too critical as well... There were a few things I just can't leave alone- The voice over at the start really made me cringe and I thought the voice over just before the suicide seemed to give the impression that Ian left a song instead of note in explanation...

Probably need to give it a bit of time and turn off the "uber-critic" inside. Seems there's one lurking in a few of us

When I wrote it was on tonight (on friday) and tomorrow night (now tonight, Saturday) at 2045 & 2330, that is the entire run of the movie @ Pboro.

Someone on another board who lives in Pboro is equally pissed off as he already had plans for the weekend so couldn't make it.

I agree that the replacement of Shadowplay with Transmission was strange, particularly as they had gone to such an effort to set it up "accurately" with Tony's intro and even Ian's stance before they started playing. I thought the cast did a good job with the songs though. The transition from chorus to last verse in Transmission that always sets my spine tingling did so in the film too.

Also a bit annoying was playing Leaders of Men instead of At a Later Date for the Short Circuit recording.

There was plenty of speculation for the suicide scene but I felt it was still more accurate - and sensistive - than the equivalent in 24HPP.

Overall a good film and more sympathetic than Touching From a Distance and also parts of Torn Apart. Personally I would have liked to see more of Young Ian and more of the Warsaw times to get a feel for the JD sound developing.

That's about the long and short of it. A few inaccuracies and alterations for artistic licence. Would've preferred Shadowplay over Transmission (could've done that as a live track) with the set up in the TV studio.

Bit of jump in the music from Unknown Pleasures to much later songs. I thought that Stroszek was watched after the row as it was on late at night. Just a few niggly things.

Went a bit flat in the middle for me but cam back strongly at the end.

I don't know, the film doesn't seem to get to the heart of Ian's depression and problems somehow for me , doesn't go deep enough into them.I don't think it goes into his relationship with Annik enough either.And before it can it gets to the point where he dies and Atmosphere plays.It was almost like Anton was so enthusiastic and concentrated on the that final part of the story he hadn't paid enough attention to the events that led up to it.

I think I was so underwhelmed by the film because, inlike when reading Touching From A Distance, I just didn't feel anything for Ian in the film... Maybe that's exactly the point but I expected to empathise with him and understand why he couldn't go on, as it happened it just all looked a bit selfish...

It did eventually arrive in Aberdeen. I don't think it went into enough detail about Ian either. I still don't see quite where the depth of the lyrics came from, judging by this film. There was 11 of us there, and most of my mates never really knew the whole story, so every time he was on his own in the last hour, they kept going "is he gonna do it now?

Great acting though , and well made.
