Shortlist magazine has revealed that distributors in the US, working the new Anton Corbijn film Control, asked if Joy Division could perform live at the US premiere.

Says Joy Division and New Order bassist Peter Hook (pictured):

“Someone from the film’s US distributor’s office phoned up saying that the New York premiere was on 25 September and would Joy Division play?

“I replied, ‘Well, the last I heard, the lead singer was dead but I’ll give them a ring and see if anything has changed'.”

Control, which focuses on Joy Division singer Ian Curtis' life and eventual suicide on May 18 1980, is released in the UK on Friday (October 5); its soundtrack compilation, featuring David Bowie, The Sex Pistols and The Buzzcocks alongside the obvious two, is out now on Warner Music.

Yeah, lets be a bit reasonable. They did record as Joy Division, and maybe they were asked to play as Joy Division, not THAT Joy Division in the screen. Lets give the guy the benefit of doubt.

A question like that can easily be "passed" on as "Can Joy Division play at the premiere?"

Actually on recent form I'd have imagined that getting New Order to play together again wasn't much more likely than getting Joy Division to play.

I more inclined to believe that the idiots heard "astrology", but were thinking "astronomy". I mean who REALLY pays attention when they are answering questions in a poll???

Unless if you hang out at independent record stores, read MOJO, or live in a cosmopolitan city, you would have no idea that Ian Curtis is dead.

There were also terifying numbers who thought Galeileo, Newton and Plato, were soccer players. And even more worrying numbers of teens who thought Chernobyl was Cher's real name.

Mayhaps you should ask about 20 of those around you and see if 13 of them think astrology is a science. Or mayhaps you really are surrounded by the other 35%. Still it's not like one of your presidents used to decide if we all lived or died based on astrolog.......ahhhh yes errrrmm. Well it's not like your current president belives a load of fairy tales about a carpenter who could surf without a boar......aaaah shit....we'll just leave that then.

You're a woman of education cozzie, use Newton's equations to work out xactly how much gravity you feel from the star sirius or even the planet neptune. Astrology hijacks the simple fact that a baby born in January will most likely turn out a bit different from one born in high summer, makes a pile of shite out of it, and sets about separating morons from their money (it's NEVER free is it).

I'm still calling bullshit on it. I'd be hard pressed to find anyone I know who believes astrology is a science. Best I could come up with were a few folks who read their horoscopes out of amusement... but I haven't asked the rest of the country just yet. I'll put it on my "to do" list.
