Hooky talks about Freebass and 'ends' speculation that NO will reform.

Howard Marks to collaborate with Freebass! Nice! (gedditt???)

Nice one Biggy. Looking at the list of collaborators there,Freebass are going to be the Manchester Allstars + a Taff and some scousers..Will Freebass be bigger than New Order ever were? Will they be better than New Order ever were, though? Nah,will they fuck IMO. But it's good news all the same.Won't fail to get masses of publicity with those names onboard. And Howard Marks's book is a cracking read, The first one,Mr Nice.:thumb:

Howard Marks' first book was one of the most entertaining I've ever read. Good that he's 'involved'

Freebass better than New Order? Well, 'MFP' was better than the last four new order albums, so let's hope so :evil4:

Hooky's right, he's helped a lot of people - cool that they give something back. It was good to hear Ian Brown 'bigging up' Hooky at the Q Awards for lending him a studio back in '86 to this end.

Wonder if they'll get Barney and Morrissey to do a track each, or maybe even a duet?

Well, Liam did well with the Chemical Brothers, so why not?

Unlike some people here, I don't dislike Oasis (double negative eh? )

Until Hooky stops bad mouthing Stephen and Bernard, I don't care what he does. He is acting like a spoiled brat and I don't have much respect for him anymore. Okay, New Order is done....stop talking about it, dude.

Well, he must be tired of everybody always asking about it and nobody believing him.

I can understand that.

oh nooooo! not this Oasis monkey!

eh, sadly, i guess to say that "FREEBASS" is or will be just a project or a collaboration featuring THIS and THAT. it is NOT a band!

however, i like all the names mentioned. :o

i agree. just how many times is Hooky going to 'end the speculation' about NO reforming. personally i couldn't give a shit about freebass either...

The best is that McCulloch is involved. I hope he does something in the same vein as 'Start Again' from his first solo record.

Freebass could be good this but I keep thinking "too many cooks".

Matey supergroups have either always failed to meet expectation or just been total shite (see Travelling Wilburys) with few exceptions. Electronic aren't included in this because well, their debut justifies their right to exist really. The Freebass demo Hooky put on his MySpace a while back was dire and didn't really seem to have anything special about it. Mind you, it was a demo so the unfinished sound can be excused eh.

The guest vocalist thing has potential... some of the top tunes from the indie-dance world have been of that ilk I.e. Barney + Chem's Out Of Control, Richard Ashcroft + UNKLE's Lonely Soul, Ian Brown + UNKLE's Be There so if Freebass can manage to mine some of that collaboration gold then they could well prove critics wrong

Hooky himself has done it well with Hybrid in the past.

On behave of the rest of Canada, "We don't give a Sh_t about FREEBASS" but we are willing to kick in a few dollars to get Hooky, Stephan and Barney some marriage councilling.

as far as i remember, Oasis used to say JD were shit! ... Times change ? Don't they ?

I remember different. One of the brothers was comparing Portishead to Joy Division. In a good way. Who gives a shit, anyway.

Hooky said Oasis were shit,so na na na-na-na.. He was diplomatic about it,saying "nothing special, nowt new,sorry..."but between the lines he was saying that they were shite. I think Oasis were decent for two albums, for the record. They were never going to be The Roses, mind.

Oasis are quite popular here in Japan (their 2005 album went to No 1 in the charts, and their 2006 collection 'Stop the Clocks' went to No 1....their song 'Whatever' is now used in a car advert here...) but, Hooky and Liam working together???? I thought someone must be joking. Then, again, I'll try not to judge Freebass (or any other 'projects' for that matter) until I hear it.

We'll see the result of that drinking night when they decided unite themselves as a band

anyway i prefer Gallagher than the stupid Robbie Williams.

i'm about to say the same thing. Oasis is a million times better than that "stupid" Robbie Williams.

In my view Oasis are about as important in Manc music history as Simply Dreadful & Cleopatra.

Was Monaco's second lp any cop? MFP isn't bad at all (but surely you mean 'last three'?) but presumably the follow-up didn't sell, given that MFP is available for a pittance second hand, while Monaco is still rather pricey. Well, either it didn't sell or everyone who bought it is hanging on to their copy. Nearly bought the 2nd lp but won't pay more than £10 for a cd (for anything that isn't a rare deleted single or promo anyway).

Maybe the split is for the best, let there be two, three, many New Order spin-offs. Between them they might come up with something better than recent output.
