I've completely given up hope of getting any decent releases or re-releases from London Records / Warners. They're incompetent and have mostly never had a clue what to do with the NO/JD back catalogue. Singles was a badly mastered, half-baked cash in, the DVD releases from 2005 were simple transfers of what we already had on VHS and the list of disappointments gets bigger every time they make one of their "efforts".
Even the recent Joy Division reissues were averagely done (no 24 Hours on Still, semi-tone out Ice Age, no These Days on the LWTUA single etc) and the excessive vinyl box set price had zero justification other than financing Barney's next yacht trip to the Caribbean. Nobody's saying they shouldn't make money but the recent set of band-related releases have been of sub-par quality and massively overpriced.
You look at other bands like PSB or Depeche and their record labels have done their music proud with extensive reissues and decent rarities. Even smaller time Factory bands like Section 25 and Revenge have had their material re-released on far better terms than anything Warners will ever manage with New Order. Perhaps an online petition to allow Mr Nice @ LTM to take over their reissue campaign?
Finally, you can just tell the band clearly don't give a shit about what the label puts out in their name (see Retro - the one chance for a decent box set pissed up the wall) so it's safe to say my hopes for London Records to put out something truly indispensable as say, Substance 1987 are pretty fcuking low now.
In complete fairness, the last indispensable release London was responsible for was Heart and soul but that was TEN ruddy years ago now!
