Who Killed Martin Hannett?

Have we already had a thread about this?

Anyone read it?

Finished it this morning. The author (Colin Sharp) sang a couple of tracks with a fledgling Duritti Column so first met Hannett then, and then shared many a long hour chasing the dragon with him. Strange thing was though that he hadn't even seen Hannett for nine years before he died, then claimed it was a couple of years later when he even found out he was dead, which I found strange (shirley it was all over the press at the time?).

Colin Sharp though seemed to live quite an entertaining existence himself (the references to his wedding are pure farce), but keeps his own life-story on the backburner for the most part.

Lots of anecdotes about Joy Division (both studio albums are reviewed to death), and a fair few quotes from our 'Ooky. The author does keep calling Barney 'Bernie' though, a name I never liked.

Definitely worth a ganders.

Like you say - it was all going well until Colin reveals that didn't go to Hannett's funeral because 'he hadn't seen him for 10 years'. Infact, they only actually knew each other for about four years, from what I can gather.

A lot of it seem to be fiction based on vague recollections, rather than first hand accounts of actual events. Still worth a read though.

The Books a Good Read, The End is spoilt though as he tries to recreate Martin dying of a Heart Attack trying to move a book case or summit which held at the top various records, he states the sordide came out and nearly decapitated him the 12" sharp-edged Vinyl Disc, except the sordide was a 7" and would struggle to decapitate a dead earwig. Don't you just hate it when someone goes all Technical like this.

Well I think this is probably the worst book I've ever bought/ read in my entire life. If anyone wants if for free I'll give it away. I'll even pay the postage to get shot of it!

Yes, but I think it's a measure of my diappointment with the book that I'll swallow the cost of sending it States!

I bought it off Amazon in a deal with the Barney biog. I thought I'd give it a chance...you live and learn...
