Joy Division documentary at Salford Film Festival

Haven't seen this posted here, but just had a Myspace message from the Manchester District Music Archive

We are proud to announce that in Salford Film Festival has secured a screening of Joy Division Documentary, which will be the only Northwest screening before it hits European festivals. This is a ticketed event so check out their website at www.salfordfilmfestival.com for info. We will be hosting the night but the screening itself will be hosted by Peter Hook who will introduce the film and do Q&A after. The film will be screened on Tuesday 27th November 2007 at Vue Cinema Salford Lowry Mall. Tickets go on sale at £6.25 next week so be first in the queue as there are limited seats available.

are refreshments and free JD albums provided?

I would If I can figure out who is selling the tickets. Quay tickets haven't heard of it and neither have Vue Cinemas. Salford Film Festival told me to phone Vue. ARRRGH!

I think I'm going to have to drive over to Salford.

Just been over to the Vue cinema. Bored looking lass, probably more into Westlife, told me it might not be on their ticketing system till early next week.

Apparently selling out quickly according the Manchester District Music Archive (lovely acronym, that) - according to a Facebook e-mail I received this morning?

"The above film is getting a special screening but tickets are going fast."

Where are they getting tickets? This is ridiculous.

Just realised that Man United are playing at home that night. Anybody who's going, prepare for crowds - especially coming out.

Just got back from this. Quite a few of the names from the story were in the audience - including Steve & Gillian, plus roadies Twinny and Terry Mason.

As for the film itself, if you only want to watch one Joy Division documentary, make it this one. It has a few exclusives I hadn't seen before.

After being the mystery woman for so long, Annik is finally interviewed and comes across as wise and sensitive (though her presence in the film is at the expense of Deborah Curtis's).

There is an eerie recording of Bernard hypnotising Ian, who apparently regresses to become somebody who reads law in the evenings. Make of that what you will.

Lastly, there is a brief clip of the band playing 'She's Lost Control' on Granada Reports that I didn't know existed.

After the film, Hooky and Steve took questions (slightly marred by a drunk) - no involvement from Gillian though.

The oddest part was finding myself standing around in a rather anonymous cinema foyer with three members of a band (plus their family) I've followed for 27 years. It was all so normal and so Manchester. Although, they quite happily posed for photos, it's not the Mancunian way to make too much of a fuss.

Yeah it was great! I'm actually more looking forward to THIS coming out on DVD than CONTROL now.Met up with Jemmie,Canada,Jert and his lady. Loads of footage and some photos I've never seen of the band.It was good to see what Annik looks like.Shock seeing MISS Genesis P. Orridge! Didn't know he'd gone to the Pete Burns cosmetic clinic. Actually as a post-script of a post I read here recently about G.P.O. apparently speaking to Ian on the night of his suicide,Hooky commented about him after the doc,saying he'd ,..err...never seen him around,to which Steve replied,"Oh he did come to one gig.He stayed around for a short while though" Felt a bit evil at end,they showed NEW ORDER at Blackpool last year,with JD superimposed over it playing LWTUA,and I wanted them to take off JD so we could see ourselves in the mosh-pit!! Some great anecdotes in the film.Footage includes the oft seen SOMETHING ELSE performances and Apollo gig,plus Malcolm Whitehead's colour footage at Bowden Vale.But also footage from PLAN K of Wilderness! During the Q&A the lads were asked how they felt about being portrayed in TWO films by actors. Steve replied that it was weird,it felt like being dissected.Hooky said they were involved with CONTROL but that doesn't guarantee accuracy to the final film.He felt now on retrospect 24 Hour Party People looks "rushed". A cracking night and a cracking film.Yeah the drunk at back,I thought Hooky knew him because he was just a little cheeky. "Where's Barney?" to which I shouted,"He's having a piss!"

Yeah Jeff,you could hear a pin drop when that was on!

Also featured Martin Hannett interview about JD saying they were a producer's dream...because they didn't argue or question him when he made suggestions about the sound. Hooky said that both he and Barney don't like UNKNOWN PLEASURES! Said that's one thing he and Barney can agree on.

Basically because it's heavy going.

Seeing as it's only ever been screened three times, I'm thinking we'll need to wait at least another week or so before somebody posts it somewhere.

don't know if this has been posted here yet (has been at jd central by Remco) but for the dutch people here: you can see the doc at the IDFA festival in Amsterdam, this friday night as part of a special rockumentary night, and on saturdaynight.

If you get the chance, go and see it. I went last night and it was great, i enjoyed it much more than Control. Some great archive footage and funny/touching interviews which i think make it the difinitive JD release. Fantastic

SHUG! They shown about 30 seconds of WILDERNESS but like you said,the footage was actually poorer than HERE ARE THE YOUNG MEN.

Anyway sounds like something that I shouldn't have missed!!! Doh

Annoying. I had a chance to catch this at TIFF but assumed it would be out around the same time Control was. It got very good notices...

Oh well--guess I know what I'm doing sometime in late March.
