Remember all those posts ago when we talked about that band NewOrder? Well for what it's worth, here's my suggestions for the ReCycle box set:

Disc 1 - 7"/Radio Edit Singles, 1981 - 1987 Ceremony/Procession/Everything's Gone Green/Temptation/Blue Monday/Confusion/Thieves Like Us/Perfect Kiss/Shellshock/Bizarre Love Triangle/Way of life*/True Faith (* I know it wasn't released, but was the planned single different to the Brotherhood version?)

Disc 2 - 7"/Radio Edit Singles, 1988 - 2002

I realise this is probably riddled with errors, but I thought it would be nice to have the 7"/Radio edits, as virtually none of these are available on CD. I deliberately overlooked the "Best of" release singles (except 1963), as they had little or no contribution from the band - same deal with the remixes/dub b-sides etc. (just an opinion!). Maybe the radio sessions could be scrapped too, depending on what's on the upcoming Peel Sessions CD, but I reckon this walks a reasonably safe line between the definitive and the affordable. There's no point in just updating Substance, so best leave 12"/Extended mixes out of it. Comments? CTB :cool:

What about Don't Do It? And the Making Out Mix of Vanishing Point is sufficiently different and sumptuous enough to be included, surely?

And hopefully there would be room on the "Radio Sessions" disc for the 1984 Saturday Live/Rock Around the Clock performance:

Dang - yeah, I did forget Don't do it - stupid, considering it's one of my faves. I've re-entered in the original post coz I'm anal like that. As for the Saturday Live thing, I thought that was on telly (?) - if so it would go on the DVD as a TV appearance. If not, then yeah - lose the Peel sessions stuff and include that. Thanks for the comments, Oldie - how's the sprog, BTW? CTB :cool:

CTB ... given the vast amount of material a great many NO fans have (making the premise of Re-cycle a proper re-cycling exercise with little benefit to the average hoarder), what about releasing an entirely complete set of works - that is - everything they have ever commercially produced, from JD to NO? ... it might take some compiling and it could sell for £699 in several tin boxes but that would be a spectacle wouldn't it? ... its been done many times before with other bands and solo artists and it would seem NO have been well documented so it wouldn't be impossible. At least we would all know we had everything!

True Huntsy - but as I said, I was trying to make it affordable. Keep in mind that your 699 quid is about two grand in Aussie money (not to mention the import prices) - that's about the price of my car. While I would dearly love to have absolutely everything, I don't know if London (or any other record company, Factory RIP included) would bear the cost of producing such definitive and expensive item/s, given that so much turf has been covered ad nauseum with Substance, Best Of, Rest of, 20 years of NewOrder etc. My suggestion would round out my collection, so in those terms it's fairly selfish, but in an ideal world, the lot (plus some never before heard stuff) would be ace. In short, I like your thinking, but not the prospect of your economics!

Here's hoping they don't just knock out the Best of with some Get Ready tracks on it (not unlikely)... CTB :cool:

Well CTB given its all old gear they could arguably sell the complete discography (inc. rare material) for about £45.32 ... which is about $90 out there at the other end of the world. Your suggestion for the Re-cycling unit seems cock-on ... but like all compilations there's always 1 or 2 things that you really can't believe have been left off ... which might happen this time around.

There's no need to sell your current vehicle ... yet.

Saturday Live was a simulcast(?) on Radio 1 and BBC2. But putting it on the DVD is a great idea!

I'd go along with this suggestion, as it has virtually all the sought after vinyl on - although I'd still like the seven inch "dub" edits on CD, such as Kiss of Death, Sub-Culture, etc. The Confusion Dub 1987 wouldn't be amiss either. I think a whole disc of rareities/outtakes would be a good idea.

Also, on the B-sides disc, don't forget the re-recorded 'Let's Go which featured on the 1963 CD single: a cracking new version with new lyrics by Barney.

Yeah - I guess we could debate the whole what's on/what off deal for ever unless you do the whole shebang like Huntsy said, but this is just a list to fill the gaps in my collection (selfish, as I said). Andrew, this in no way was to undermine your fine suggestions in an earlier thread, just my take on the ReCycle thing. As for "Let's go (Nothing for me)", yes it is cracking, but as it's on the Best of, I didn't include it in my list. Technically it could get the honors, as I think it was the b-side to the newer version of 1963.

Depthy - I would never drive a Camira. My vehicle is a 1984 Suzuki Swift, fitted out internally to resemble a TIE fighter. CTB :cool:

There is no ideal tracklisting, nobody will EVER be happy.

There is special edit of songs for specific countries, like Blue Monday in Japan, Subculture in Belgium, etc.. so many versions available.

So the idea of doing a re-release of EACH single like Depeche Mode did on CD is probably the best one... so each and every single would have its own CD, then release a rarity boxset or something that we will all be happy to have. They can package the whole thing together and everyone would be happy, or sell each item individually.

As for the Peel Sessions, forget it, the rights don't belong to London, but to BBC... (Strange Fruit)

Ah, the different coutry's release schedules. Here in the UK, 'Let's Go' only featured on a limited secend CD of 1963, and not on 'The Best Of', so it would be a necessity somewhere on these discs!

Another thing I'd suggest which would complete your collection, would be another disc, with 'Full length 12 inches', as many are hard to find on CD, and were edited for 'Substance'. So it would feature the un-clipped versions of 'Temptation', 'Confusion', 'Perfect Kiss', 'Subculture', 'Shellshock', 'Touched By The Hand Of God' for example, and maybe a few of the 12" Dubs & B-sides ('Hurt', 'Dub-vulture', 'Shellcock', etc).

I reckon we only need 4 discs:

Disc 1 - all the 12" and/or extended versions Disc 2 - all the 7" and/or the 'edit' versions Disc 3 - all the b-sides from all formats Disc 4 - the 'rarities' - Theme, Homage, Let's Go original, Sunrise Instrumental (does this exist?) and whatver else they have unreleased. You never know there may be many 'dub' versions lurking around that we haven't heard. This disc could also include live versions of Sister Ray, Do The Ostrich, Anarchy In The UK, the Sparks one etc

Do the math: those tracks wouldn't fit on just four discs. In fact, I doubt all one version from each 12" would fit on just two discs. I have a compilation I knocked up myself on two CDs featuring all the singles (one version of each, not including re-releases - mostly radio edits where available) and that's over two hours. A similar compilation of B-sides (not including dubs or remixes of A sides: just the original songs which featured as extra tracks - and 'Brutal') had a running time of 90 minutes, so that's at least six or seven CDs to make up the A and B-sides and radio edits! But essentially, I think we can expect something like your list, but perhaps a bit cut down, if the track listings are repeating stuff from 'The Best Of' or 'Substance'. It's the 'additional material' discs we're all going to be interested in anyway.

BTW: what's 'Theme' and 'Homage'? I must have missed any references to them in discographies, etc.

P.S. I'm wondering if the best thing to do is to print out these five or six fine suggestions we've had for track listings, and get someone to post them direct to the band: Barney expressed an interest in what the fans want, and no one would know which old master tapes are still available better than the band themselves (or the late Rob Gretton of course). Then they could simply pick and choose the most desired selections from everyone's lists, and come to some sort of compromise. I doubt I'll acheive my aim of getting all the old vinyl onto CD, but if it comes fairly close to it (dance mixes accepted, for example) I'll be happy.

Homage is a ropey old demo with Steve Morris singing. Theme was recorded under the name Be Music and was released on a compilation album called "The Quick Neat Job".

As luck would have, they are both available to download in the Media section....

I'm fed up with my awful belt-drive Sony (excuse for a) turntable, which plays too fast. I'm sure they have a policy of putting crap, cheap turntables on their units to encourage people to buy more expensive CDs (Sony own half the record industry, don't forget).

I'm now assuming that most of this sought after vinyl won't be on the boxed set, so have just ordered a Technics SL-1210 MK2Y so I can hear all my records at the right bleedin' speed! You watch New Order put the whole damn lot on the set now! I borrowed a mates Technics a few years back and got digital copies of the vinyl-only New Order stuff I have (although my 'Shellshock' 12" had a shocking scratch at the start - have another copy now, though), and I intend to bang the rest onto CD within a few weeks.

So when i've done it, I'll post a list of all the tracks I have, and see if anyone else has rareties they'd like to swap or something...

I've recently dabbled down the vinyl to CD route. I put together a compilation of all the singles and B sides since True Faith, and also a collection of rarities, stuff not on CD already and a few collaborations. That lot took four full 80 minute discs!

Hey, what about featuring 'Haystack' by Kevin Hewick on the boxed set? It was supposed to be New Order's 1st ever recording, as a backing band for Kevin. It's already been on the CD issue of 'From Brussels With Love', so we know a digital master exists. Never heard it though, so I don't know if it's any good!
