Ian Curtis's Thoughts On..

i was wondering..what do you all think ian's opinions would be regarding get ready and also new order performing old j/d tracks like digital? i'm sure he's up there somewhere watching !

Interesting question! Especially since he's been dead for almost as long as he was alive. Someone else can talk about this more knowledgably than me but it didn't seem as if Ian had a lot of input into the music since he could barely play an instrument. So the progression NO has made musically probably would have happened even if Ian hadn't killed himself. This is contingent of course on how dependent the band was on Ian to guide them through his lyrics and themes.

But certainly Barney's lyrics generally don't have the same emotional weight that Ian's did, an obvious exception being True Faith (and others if I thought about it). And I think that Ian might have been disappointed by that.

I just think it's incredible that they were same band, essentially. Two very different distinct and viable entities. And why I's be lovings the Order.

The songs would be more depressing.

is pretty close to lyrics that ian did

I think Ian would be delighted that New Order were performing JD songs especially as the Joy Division family is essentially still intact. I also think Get Ready would have met with his approval, I could almost imagine Ian singing Chrystal. I wonder how Deborah & Natalie Curtis feel hearing LWTUA all the time on the radio?

Actually, Ian had quite a huge input on the music of JD (just read any interview with the surviving bandmembers if you don't believe me)

As to what he'd think....chances are he'd be bopping his head along to their tunes like he did in the Perfect Kiss video (yes, that's supposed to be him, I don't want to hear any arguments)

i bet ian's up there with rob gretton and martin hannet having a stiff drink and dancing to blue monday ;)

That was just some technition watching and listening. After all, it was a live performance of TPK. To me Get Ready is a return to the past. A simpler sound. Songs you can create with your band that do not require three years of studio work. Making music that is as enjoyable to create as it is to listen.
