I was looking through my old dusty collection of records and came across a 12" single that I bought but never listened to. It was Sub Sub's 'This Time I'm Not Wrong' featuring Bernard Sumner... Record player burned out its transformer years ago and never bothered fixing it yet.
Is this any good? What does Barney do in this song... sing?
Wasn't until recent I found out that Doves were Sub Sub, so pretty excited over this little find....

It's not a bad song...I'm listening to it right now. I only have one version...its got a 5:17 run time, so I'm guessing its the unedited version.

Haven't played it for a while so can't remember exactly but I think it is an early version, or I may be getting confused with 'Suitenoise' which was on the b-side of The Man Who Sold Everything.
Of the two Sub Sub albums I didn't much care for Full Fathom Five, but The Delta Tapes is great. Their studio burned down with most of their equipment and material in it, and they literally had one DAT of songs left undamaged to show for two years of work. After that they rose like, err Doves, from the ashes...
"This Time I'm Not Wrong" is a great song, sounds a bit like "Catch The Sun" from the first Doves album.
"Firesuite" is indeed an early version of the opening track from Doves first album, bit rougher sounding, slightly different arrangement but still good.
"Heads Will Roll" is fantastic. I absolutely love it. I seem to remember it being used as the backing music on a football programme's 'goal of the month' bit and if it wasn't then it should have been

Yes, perhaps that's the reason why both albums remain out of print to this day?
I remember that the surviving DAT had a collaboration with Tricky on it, "Divine Comedy", that they released as a white-label 12" (which I immediately bought at the time). Think that Tricky then released it on one of his own singles/albums?

Nice one Clive, just sauntered over to ebay to try my luck - Full Fathom Five available 'buy now'for £24.00! (the sleeve reminds me of the 'Run 2' single)but picked up Ain't No love (Ain't no use) on Cd which I haven't got yet.

I distinctly remember getting a Rob's Records promo postcard in the post around '97 letting me know the TTINW single was on the way. No idea how they got my address but I think they were sent out to everyone who was on the Electronic mailing list (favour from Barney to Rob?) at the time. I still have it bundled with the CD single. I think Johnny Marr was thanked on the sleeve for providing guitars and harmonicas.
As has probably been mentioned the guitars on TTINW do resemble what became the Doves single 'Catch The Sun'; both quality tunes. Fire suite is the same idea as the Doves track but a slightly different arrangement.
I went on a Sub Sub collecting spree around 2002 and tracked down just about everything they did on CD, including a rather expensive Delta Tapes auction on Ebay and 'Senna' on a Dutch Import CDS. All still (mostly) as rare as hen's teeth even these days which is somewhat reassuring.

ahhh yes,the forever coming doves album and tour.here's hoping it will happen soon 
Since Catch the Sun is the song that first had me hooked to Doves, I'm itching to hear it.
I'd ask for copies, but that wouldn't be fair at the moment. I still am delinquent on my end of the deal of a long past due weed.... finally got a new computer that I think can copy region 2 dvds, and now I can't find the blasted dvd to copy.... my apologies to all that have this promised to them (and probably have forgotten by now)....
as soon as I get my side completed on this, hopefully yer still willing to send over a copy of those songs.... and possibly any other sub sub music, as I've been looking for a bit, but haven't been able to find any of it...

it sounds like a Twisted tenderness era song like HAZE or VIVED,good stuff.
