mate was saying last night about a gig he went to in the 80's - was at chippenham gold diggers, said the order were supported by an irish band, blue something.
anyway their ferry was late so the support band actually played after new order!
anyone know who this supoprt band was?
Probably AUGUST 22 nd 1984 to narrow this down but the sites i checked don't mention the support.

Also the poster i gave SHUG is shown on WORLDINMOTION for these gigs in 84.SHUG -does it mention any support in bottom right hand corner?
aND JUST BEFORE I GO SHOPPING..............IF SAID CONCERT IS 84 NEW-ORDER.NET(I TRIED linking this earlier but failed) has several comments of the gig from guys who went.I'm sure at least one of them post here.Just a thought.......

That would explain the lack of support before the Order then! No idea who they were, didn't hang around to wait for anything else to happen. Was only an OK gig anyway.

No mention of support acts on the poster as far as my memory serves me mate, will have to look said poster out tonight. It was definitely 1984 though

Only band I can think of around that time would be The Blue Nile, but they were Scottish not Irish. Dunno if that's the answer, but it's a good guess

i came up with blue aeroplanes, blue rondo a la turk, blue orchids. thought it may be the blue minks on the way home, but no tchecked back yet.
defo wasnt them - mate i was talking to is "the only musician in bristol never to have been in them" & would have known if it was them!
said they were a bit gothy. err & irish.

yup , they were well l8 on the ferry,,, and the order were on l8 any way,, intro said they wanted to play dont think anyone hung around for the ferryymen though.. ask slim he was there ,,ish

& shug - it was an irish band we were after so suggesting a scotch one ain't that helpful ;-) besides - i saw the blue nile at the electric picernic - would have known if it was them
I think this was part of the "Final Solution" promoted whistle stop tour of the UK.
Did the norvern legs with my bro..(Sunderland and Hull)..fucked if I can remember who supported.

i'm guessing it's 'blue in heaven' because they were often compared to joy division. martin hannett had also produced their album.
blue in heaven was a great band btw. worth seeking...
They also supported in Hull. If I remember everyone sat on the metal chairs until they'd finished then got up and moved them out of the way!

ahh yes I remember it well, a very very long (20 minutes plus? must check my bootleg)version of Ultraviolence, in which each member of the band pissed off leaving the electronics to do the work - until those few of us who stayed to the end missed the last bus! All to fulfill contractual obligations, apparently the promoter got arsey after they failed to encore the previous night in Leeds.
I can remember fuck all about the support band unfortunately, Also, I'm sure someone videoed some of the New Order set from the wings of the stage methinks.

That was 82 at the Tower! The 84 set wasn't lost, just a very long and experimental Sunrise to finish.
