Rarest JD/NO item

What is the rarest Joy Division or New Order item you've ever seen or come across? I was in a record store in 1991 in Hollywood, Ca and I saw a 45' Joy Division single that the band "supposedly" put out themselves signed by all 4 band members. It was going for $400.00 USD. It looked like the real thing but then you never know. I had a friend from work with me and he was going to loan me the money to buy but I didn't do it. Always regretted it but then you never know. It looked really authentic. I can' remember what was on the cover, it's been a while but I remember thinking that it was the real thing.

That's the An Ideal For Living EP. At one time I owned two copies of it. It's probably the most valuable JD item, but with 1200 copies pressed it's probably not the rarest.

i took a picture of the autocue at one of the 2005 gigs - it doesn't just have the lyrics on it - tells him about guitar breaks etc as well!

Saw a ticket stub signed by Ian curtis. Mark at the Record Peddler owned it. Wonder if he ever sold it?? Priceless

I remember seeing that at Bleeker Bobs. I remember coz me n my old mate Eli would go there every week just to stare at it. Oh those were the good old days. One day it was gone!! I remember talking to the one of the employees of bleeker bobs, and he said that the store they had in new york had a lot rarities, autographs, etc of NO. Green Hell was the shiiiit! I blew all my wad in buying all my NO n JD live bootleg tapes in that frkn store. Too bad their gone..

I saw a New Zealand pressing of the 12" on Love will tear Us Apart for $300. I offered $50. Alas it isn't in my collection. No matter I have an original Oz pressing I've owned since new. OK not quite new. It spent a few years in storage before I got it. You could order just about anything in them days and often it was the original pressing.

it's probably not rare or all that valuable, but i just got something... not sure what it is. it might be a technique tour book, it might be some strange press kit. it has the round and round girl on the front and a bunch (maybe 25 pages) of full size photos of album graphics and tour photos, along with quotes and pictures of various people associated with new order. not sure what it is, but it's pretty damn cool.

so what is it?

edit: well, just one little google search and i figured it out. doesn't belong anywhere near this post... it's "untitled," the 1989 tour program. still pretty cool. if i were in college, or still smoking pot, i'd put bits of it up on my walls... but it's two-sided, and i wouldn't wanna destroy it or hide some nice bit. meh.

I can't remember the name. It was about 17 years ago. I want to say it was on Melrose, but I'm not sure.

I think it's just a picture book more than anything. I used to have it.

Now thats ironic. All my early NO/JD pressings are NZ ones (EMI) cause thats obviously what was sold down here. I used to send over to the UK to import the nicely packaged ones and not the shitty paper sleeves we got here.

I didn't know these were rare. I have a few of them from when I briefly considered swapping from LP to cassette back in the 80's. I never did, so in the end I have a few cassingles. Definitely have Confusion, BM and I think I have BLT and SOTN as well.

Any idea what they might be worth? I was once offered US$750 for my Jap 7" but turned it down.

Good question - haven't seen them for sale recently, although I'd guess they're pretty rare (unique to New Zealand in that format)...

in terms of recorded music -- i would guess test presses and acetates would register as the most rare. as for the rarest item in my possession, i have an in-house studio cassette of technique 7 inch mixes. there are four mixes, a few of which are otherwise unavailable, such as "mr. disco".

Featuring 7" edits done by Chris Lord-Alge I believe. Only the one for Round & Round has seen the light of day. Probably done for the US market.

Not much, really. Saw a SotN go for a song on eBay recently.

More valuable would be a fresh minty copy of the NZ red BM vinyl.

As far as UK releases go, something like the white label press of NUXXDJ6 with Tall Paul remixes would be a crowning glory in any collection.

Most common source of info is HERE.

The Tall Paul white labels were Pete Tong promos with only 15 rumoured to have been pressed. The NUXXDJ6 cat number was later assigned to the Lionrock 1963 remixes. In a way, it would've made more sense if the Tall Paul TF94 remixes were pressed as NUXXDJ5 as this was the next in sequence (ie TF94 was the fifth NO single on London).

Anyhoo, as has been suggested they are dud remixes from a dud DJ. You can find an edit of them on a Cream compilation.

Why they remain highly collectible above other 'unofficial' NO remixes is that they bear a legitimate NO cat number and they were a super-limited pressing. It'd be interesting to see what they'd fetch on eBay today.

One sided acetate with 1 track.

London Records were using Master Room for their mastering, so it seems to me if you were only going to make 15 copies of something, an acetate would still be quicker and cheaper than a test pressing.

Between TF94 NUXXDJ6 and 1963 NUXXDJ6?

Well there's one easy means of identification. You'll never see a TF94 NUXXDJ6.

On the remote chance that you did, it wouldn't have the stencil-cut 1963 sleeve, nor the printed label, nor the affordable price tag.

The rarest I ever had, was stolen from me years back. Not sure the correct name of it (test pressing??) but it was (I think) a 25 minute rendition of Shellshock. Was only on one side, in a plain white cardboard sleeve... other than that my stuff is pretty run of the mill vinyl.... not sure how rare the SubSub single is with Barney....

My rarest stuff is (cover yer ears Digi) of the Cure.... NO stuff was really hard to come by in LA...

Only 8 copies were pressed.

There's also another similar test pressing to this one that features "7 FAC 93 B1" on one side (Confusion 7" promo B side) and "7 BONG 4 A2" on the other (Depeche Mode - Love In Itself 7").

There are probably only a handful of them too.
