Substance Remastered?

I'm confused :confused2: . Maybe one of you good sirs can help me? As far as I know, Substance has never been remastered, correct? I've even seen talk of there being no intention of it being remastered due to it's release date having been after JD's tragic end. But regardless. That being the case, what is the difference between the original US Substance release (Oct. 25, 1990) and the UK Substance [IMPORT] release (Jan. 13, 2008)? Could the import version possibly be remastered? Anybody know? I guess I just assume it would be simple because of the 2008 release date.

Also, while I'm speaking of remasters, are the Collectors editions of Closer, Still and Unknown Pleasures remastered or any better sounding then the original cds?

Thanks Much!!!

I Like to see a new remastered Substance 1987 BUT I hope they don't screw it up. I want the complete 12 inch mixes and NO edits this time!!! If there's not enough space on the discs (which is ofcourse the case) then they can put out a third disc (think of a digi-pak format like for example the Blade Runner Trilogy).

On the third disc there's room enough for putting in the other B-sides, like Confusion (Rough Mix), Confused Beats, Perfect Pit, Dub Vulture, Shellcock, Bizarre Dub Triangle, True Dub.

:deal:

Maybe even Touched By The Hand Of Dub, Beach Buggy, Fine Line etc. but I realize that was after september 1987.

Good Luck for London Records :thumb:

I was listening to the second disc just the other day and wondering about this topic. I'd like to see this historic cd set get a sonic upgrade. This is the album that lured many of us Yanks into the fold back in the day...

with regards to songs after 1987, I always kind of hoped there would be a Volume 2 picking up the 12" version story from there....

How many compilations do we need?

True, but I don't have any of the b-sides/remixes for Technique for instance. I have many (but not all) from Republic.

Wasn't someone on these forums some time back saying the U.S. version of Substance is the Gold Standard for sound quality?

Just because it's not compressed to sound good on your little tinny iPod headphones doesnt mean it's not good quality mastering.

I've played 'Blue Monday' off a recent master, followed by 'The Beach' off the old U.S. Substance release and the difference is instantly noticeable. The U.S. Substance release sounds infinately more rich and detailed. You just have to turn up the volume a bit, that's all.
