Peter Saville

Been reading some old treads and I found one where some of you said that His Royal Savilleness had somehow lost his talent. I've got a different opinion: it's just that he saves his better ideias for other people! Just think Suede's "Coming up", "Sci-fi lullabies" (a work of pure genius, this one!), "Headmusic" (if you don't count Brett's handwriting), even JD's "Permanent" (Classic Saville perfection), "AMTAE", "Preston" and "Les Bains douches". Hell, even Other Two's "Superhighways" had a sleek, fine sleeve! What? Gay Dad? OK, you got me there! Just get those guys at Attick (the Twisted tenderness artwork people) to do the next sleeve and recycle (eh!eh!) Saville's work for "Recycle"

Jorge as a collector of all the SAVILLES artwork i must agree with you that he has stiil lots of talent within him. I used to look forward to the ARTWORK sometimes as much as the music on some of the dodgy single releases. rm

I think that Saville´s work for Gay Dad was very good, instantly recognisable and far brighter than the group itself.

BTW do they still exist? Gay dad, I mean.

Yes i got their latest album OCT 2001 called and i kid you not..."TRANSMISSION"....plus all their singles and the first album but no HUBER i am not A GAY DAD.:)

Did you know that I bought Gay Dad's 1st album because I thought the artwork was awesome (shame about the cover itself, tough)? That's how much of a fan I am. Anyway Get ready's cover somehow made me feel disappointed, as if Peter didn't tried enough. I was expecting something on the lines of the 3 16 DVD (yes it's 3 16, not 316!) or the JD live CDs.By the way, the Heart & Soul cover was not that great too...

The cover for heart and soul is great Ian looks so fucked up!

Jorge slighty off subject but the FIFTH TRACK.. "BLACK GHOST" is a really classy song.WHAT DO U THINK? Cheers RM :) I also got sent a carboard GOLD BOX with the WHITE MAN LOGO for the singles "OH JIM" to be boxed in from the now defunct mailing service.

Haven't heard the damn thing for ages but I'll give it a chance... once THE THE's "45 rpm" decides to exit my CD player, that is!

Ah bloody ah, Mick! You said you're a collector of all Saville's artwork. That means you have Paul "I sang for the Queen, me" Macca's live album of a few years back (Tripping the live fantastic or whatever)? You're in an ever worse state than myself really (I draw the line at scottish singers with lousy pseudonyms- Aztec Camera I mean)!

The "cover art" for "Heart & Soul" is a video still and as such does nothing for a persons appearance - the "fucked up" part of Ian Curtis was in his head & was NOT (as has been wrongly implied several times) as a result of any illegal drug use. He was living on prescrption medicine for some time before his death but sadly this did little to make him feel or indeed look that much better...

Why did they pick that cryptic pic of him then>? eh?
