Amazing show, new orders greatest in my honest opinion. For those of you who attended how was it? Was the atmosphere just as exciting as the recording?

Really wasnt my favourite gig at all.
I threw up a dodgy pint of cider during 'Ruined in a Day', it started pissing it down mid-gig, they played too many songs off Republic, and just didnt seem very cohesive at all. I'm sure it was this gig the weather went bonkers, and we got hit by torrential rain.
Listening to that recording is odd cos 'Everyone Everywhere' sounds great, but at the time, in the crowd, it was a jumbled mess of sound.
So in short, no.
Much better gigs in 89 and 98.

EDIT: Can't some bright spark go back through the years and find all the previous comments on this? For all the Liams whinging about New-Order-by-Numbers gigs from 2001-6 they really ought head back to 1993 to see how New Order properly went 'through the motions' first time around. Fcuk me, it's not even a particularly inspiring setlist (especially when you compare it to everysinglegig they'd just done in the States! )

Lots of 30 somethings in Republic tee shirts.Fairly warm weather.We bumped into a lad from our town who was keen to tell us how Ian Curtis died.Went out of our way to avoid The Lemonheads (or was it Evan Dando solo? ).Gig was so so although the superb bootleg would suggest otherwise
Biggest dissapointment of the night was Melanie Williams failing to appear on stage at the Rivermead centre to do Ain't No Love (Ain't No Use) with Sub Sub.
Wasn't that bothered that it may have been New Order's final gig as just that week i had made the decision to jack my job in and go backpacking abroad for a year
i always thought it was odd they started their gigs in 93 with Ruined in a day. I'm a big fan of the song however it just doesn't seem like a song to jump start the crowd.

That setlist didn't 'jump start' the crowd till True Faith (or was it BLT? Whichever came first). Regret wasn't then the classic it came to be and the likes of Round & Round and World were bouncy enough but quite 'nice' and 'safe'. Compare that to more recent gigs where you get the likes of Ceremony, Love Vigilantes and Tranmission chucked at you early doors and you can perhaps see my point.

Intrigued, I just checked out '93 on the concert browser. Jesus, that must have been fun for anyone following them around! 
shame this was the first "gig" I ever downloaded by NO. Perhaps due to that im partial to it.

Nah, it didn't rain: weather was pretty good all day in fact. That must have been a very dodgy pint of cider, Burt!!!
Now you mention it i think it did rain for a bit during the gig.Had been sunny all day though , aye.
From the video footage and the sound I have, it looks like a cracking gig.

Was never too keen on it, just very subdued compared to the 89 one. and i had nowhere to stay, just lazed around the site like a zombie till the trains went on and i could get out of there, wondering if this was really a way for a grown man to be acting, and i have often found myself thinking that on my jaunts to see them, lots of money, lots of drink, very little recollection of the gig and a long journey home. ah well i spose those days are over, i miss them.
I quite enjoyed it, but then, I was pretty stoned.
Was that when Siouxsie and the Banshees played the same year or was that '98?
No,I do think it was that year. Bad Brains played on the Friday afternoon and Chumbawamba too.
I've got no memory of rain, but then, I'm not the best as far as memory goes.
I think that was the year I woke up with my head sticking out of the tent and heard NO sound checking around 8am. Regret.
Or maybe their guitar roadies, to be honest
It was a decent enough gig, but nowhere near as good as many of the rest I've seen.
It wasnae the best gig I've ever been to, but I thought they were magic. Ok the set-lists had started to take a turn for the worse, but the band were tight as fcuk. I was very drunk, but I think the bootleg still stands up today, which is more than can be said of me and them Dinasour Jr cunts
As it is when it was & obviously Ceremony made it worthwhile, just always wish i did the New York & Denver shows stateside when i had the chance

Are you 100% sure?... I must admit I'm not... I ended up getting a day ticket at last opportunity. I'm just kinda sure it went cataclysmic almost as i arrived, somewhere towards the end of the Dinosaur Jnr set. (not Finsbury Park catacylsmic though, mind)
I remember giving up on a tent and sleeping in my lovely Ford Orion, and i don't think this was '89.
The cider was rank though....
i can't say nothing about the gig cause i was not there...but i love that recording. Actually i have 2...the Electronic Ecstasy and the cd called New Order Europe 1993.

It was awful.
Hooky was in such a strop with Barney that he actually SHAT on his AMP.
Steve spent the whole gig flicking his snot at the two gimps up front.
The entire set list was given out to fans before the gig, just to piss them off.
Gillian deliberately wet herself because she was so fucking bored.
Rob Gretton tried to hang himself at the sidelines due to the hell of hearing the same bastard set for the umpteenth time, then realised the band didn't deserve such a grand gesture and so did the crossword instead.
The entire crowd was boring and most people left about two songs in.
It rained all day and I got trenchfoot and syphilis.
It cost £33455 to get in.

Forgive me for asking but when was the Reading gig that was such a great one? the one where NO was flying high and Garbage said they couldn't top the gig NO just gave. Was it in '98 or something like that? who was there and was it such a great gig then?

Twas 98 and even better than Reading in 93......except for WORLD IN FUCKING MOTION. As soon as New Order left the stage, so did 15/20,000 others. So fucking good to see them revert back to Joy Division songs, Isolation and Heart & Soul inparticular. Even better craic that day was the beer tent in the sun, they were giving out free beer to all those wearing a wrist band, once you had the beer they marked yer band, but like a true professional, Uncly John sussed it was east to rub off. Hence us being absolutely fcuked by the time the Order took the stage. The Bluetones were the support and were fucking good an all. The banter from Barney from start to end was brilliant an all. Great, great gig.
I had a ticket for that, would have popped my New Order cherry and seen The The which I was desperate to do. We loaded up a van and set off to drive from Poole, where I was living. Then we decided to see if our mate Dave wanted to come. Dave was a keen photographer and said he'd come too as soon as he finished his shift in the pub. So we sat in the pub and waited for him to finish...

Aftre the above posts i checked the browser again, and saw they played Reading three times, never knew this! i thought only two times, one miserable gig (93) and one great gig (98)..leaves us with the third in '89, what was that one like? anyone been?
Apparently the bootleg is the only worthwhile memory of the gig to you lot. Excellent, but I must say very snazzy description of an event I would've loved. Rain, drunks, druggies, Barney's amazing ability to banter obscure "jokes". Curse my parents for bringing me into the world so late.
Reading 89 is in the Top 3 gigs I never got to. Played the tape to death when I received it in the post a month or two after the gig itself.
Reading 93 - the music wasnae miserable, just the band.
Reading '89 was great, the Fine Time and Blue Monday encore was memorable for me being down the front with loads of space but surrounded by loads of people and being able to dance, Bernard Fine Time style. There's a nice clip of All The Way on YouTube from that gig. Reading '93 was great too from a hero worship point of view (they're back, woooo) but looking at the clip of Dream Attack on YouTube it's obvious all was not well...I'm out of tune, or maybe everyone else is out of tune with me. Bernard's air drumming is really good on that one, I can only guess that the drums are too loud in his monitor or he's trying to annoy Steven. I've been convinced for years that they played Spooky at Reading '93, I'm sure I saw them do it!

still think reading 89 was the easily the best of the 3.the weekend was only spoiled by getting food poioning on the third night, only good thing about that was it was at the same time as the mission coming on.but my journey back into london that night wasnt great, spewing bile all over the underground at regular intervals wasnt really doing much for changing the english view on scots.

I think John Peel was the compere for all 3 days at Reading '89 though I could be wrong. I remember him DJing as well on the first day as the Bhundu Boys discs got an airing and provoked some incredible move busting from the crusty ladies and gentlemen and I have a vague memory of him reading out the football scores on day 2, though I wasn't really bothered on day 2 as I only wanted to see The Pogues. Other memorable moments on day 1 included Spacemen 3 sitting down a lot, My Bloody Valentine (I didn't get them back then), That Petrol Emotion (great set) and Einar from the Sugarcubes running round the stage like a nutter and chasing Bjork during Bee. And who can forget..."I'VE SEEN YOU ALL DRESSED IN BLACK, PICKIN' YER FUCKIN' NOSES, WHAT WE WANT IS NEW ORDER FANS"

yup peely did read out the scores on the second day, my mistake, but im deffoe it was someone else for the final day. i wont change my mind again.
just as an aside, i remember seeing the official programme for that tour on sale at reading 89 but didnt have the cash for it ( i was an unemployed 18 year old) but bought it off e bay a couple of years ago, pretty nice item.
You're spot on about day 3 eldorado, I remember now that the DJ was from one of the indie clubs in London (think it was the Powerhouse in Islington?)

There was actually a stall at Reading, churning out bootlegs in '89. It advertised you could buy them an hour after the gig had finished.
Interesting comments about sound of the boot vs what it was actually like. Made me rethink how I felt about certain other live recordings. We all now that "official" live releases are often bollocks, but you assume a bootleg is representative of how good a gig is.
For the record, I love this bootleg and it makes up a little for the sting of not catching the band on their summer '93 tour (I had no idea there wouldn't be another US tour for so long!).
It was a strange gig really. I recall going there on the train from Paddington and then, because I'm a stranger in them there parts, sort of following the crowd in the general direction of the muffled noise in the distance.
They played As It Is, When It Was and concluded with Blue Monday. I can remember people around me crying because they really believed it was The End and it felt like it at the time. I believe I shared a cab back with a total stranger - a fellow Orderite - and we began a conversation about Order remixes. It seems a long time ago now...
I have got the audience shot vhs converted to dvd of this gig. I then overdubbed the "pre-FM" audio. I have put a clip of Ruined in a Day on Youtube.
It is amazing the number of over-dubs that were done and I can understand how those at the gig and those who have the bootleg can reach different conclusions about the gig.
Found myself the reading '89 gig on Soulseek (thanx to NOOL-member Mario
)...
It sounds pretty good, i like the tracks that are played.
