do pc dvd players use regions? i.e. could i purchase this via amazon.uk and be able to play it on my US computer? I know my dvd player hooked to my tv would choke on it, but are internal pc dvd players regionless by default?
No they're not, but you can change the region (up to 4 times I think) which will enable you to make a copy.

On a much less important topic than the domestic porn shot by our favourite popsters, surely much of this live footage will of (above average) bootleg quality? I can't see that some/many of these gigs were professionally filmed without people on here knowing about it (or it at least being rumoured to exist)?

not bozzed bout Glasto 81' cos they were totally pissed too far, but Toronto 85' not that has been rumoured for a long time, so exiting stuff.
Rome 82' should be good cos that whole european tour in the spring of 82' produced some of the best bootlegs/shows ever i reckon.
Whoa excitement! I was at the cork gig in 83. Hopefully they will have some footage of the support band - Cork legends Five Go Down To The Sea :)

what won't be funny if this gets released in PAL format only like 316 did originally (thankfully it was finally released over here).
Most programs that rip and burn DVDs strip out the region encoding. I have tons of PAL DVDs, and while I have a region-free player that I bought for $40 at Target, I always rip and burn the original disc, effectively making a copy that will play in any player.
I think the concert would be most interesting from buenos aires or somewhere far from England.The 2 last live dvd's was from England.It's some bit of boring...But bonus dvd it's so cool.I always wanted to have Dream Attack or 1963 on live video.

Download VLC player..it plays all regions and .avi files which most video torrents are

An interview with Stephen Morris
New Order, rock legends and inspiration to thousands of bands, are bringing out a new concert DVD. Compiled by Peter Hook and Stephen Morris, this DVD sees the band both at their 21st century best and also collects a unique selection of live performances from their extraordinary career. We filmed two nights in Glasgow, which is always a good idea with New Order, says Stephen Morris, explaining the DVDs warts-and-all feel. In the past when weve done live DVDs theres always been a bit of fixing up but weve not bothered with this one! Because as Rob Gretton our former manager used to say: its just a moment in time, caught forever. And sometimes the mistakes are more interesting.
The DVD is punctuated with a series of short, sharp interviews with band members. Watching an entire concert is a bit gruelling, says Stephen. And the idea of breaking it up by doing interviews was very interesting. We were all interviewed separately but we all ended up carrying on from what the other person was saying. Also Glasgow was where Bernard did smash up the dressing room in a fit of pique and we cant go back to Barrowlands! Banned from the clubs! Its very interesting the rocknroll banter of Bernard and Hooky and myself.
This concert is notable for a very large amount of Joy Division songs, something New Order once avoided strongly. When we first started as New Order, wed made this blanket decision that we werent going to play Joy Division songs and nobody could mention Joy Division in our presence, says Stephen, And so we just didnt play Joy Division numbers until 1998 when we decided to get back and do some gigs, and we all wondered why wed never played any Joy Division songs! Because theyre all great songs.
Much of the bonus material is from Morris own collection, if cupboard is another word for collection. But without this dusty archive, wed be deprived of some excellent footage. Im glad I found all that stuff. I bunged it onto DVD and me and Gillian sat down one Saturday and we thought, Oh, its good this! I could watch this all night. And its not very often you can say that
Buggers. As soon as I decided not buy this 2006 gig DVD (we've had enough with 316/511, the same ol songs), they put up a 2nd special disc. Now that puts the entire budget in a different light.
P.S. And by the way, that 2nd disc was my whole idea starting wit Celebration footage to begin with.

R'dam 85, my first ever NO gig. I play the tape often and it brings back the buzz of that night straight away. Stunning setlist, can't wait for some video footage.

Well I for one am glad they're releasing old material. I was too young to attend the gigs in the '80s and this is the only way I can see them the way they were then. I'm ecstatic about this, yet there will always be people who complain.
Are most of the concerts on the bonus disc available as mixing desk audio's ? If so, I wonder if the bonus disc has remastered sound. Most of the amateur shot New Order concert footage is good fun apart from the tinny camcorder sound.

Celebration was a TV broadcast, so were parts of the Wireless festival. Toronto was shot by Paul Boyd and the band provided him with a stereo board feed. Don't know about the rest but I think they wouldn't put out anything too shabby.

Don't get me wrong, I am pleased when old material is released, what I don't care about is when bands and/or record labels keep shuffling around the material and calling it a new release. In the case of NO or JD (both of which I like) how many versions of a song do we need in our collections. If the band is low on cash (which I doubt) create something that is new and I'll buy it.

But this is not new versions of songs, they're live gigs which are quite a different thing and totally worth it IMO.

Mine was delivered Saturday. The extra cd is indeed the audio of the Glasgow gig. I doubt I'll ever play it: I'd much prefer an unfettered audience recording any day.

It's a bit of a bum-clench when Barney's autocue isn't working at the 2005 Hyde Park Wireless festival. His mumble through the words to 'Run Wild' is... well... embarassing.

Just watching it now.Great to see that Glastonbury 81 footage for the first time especially the stuff before the songs (Wilson's footage is it or something?). 1963 from Toronto 89 is superb although Barney appears to still be "singing" towards the end when his lips aren't moving .

much of this dvd seems to have been filmed from the second night despite the introduction near the start where hooky thanks the guy for fixing his back...
you can generally tell which night each song is from depending on whether hooky can move or not !
Barney is spot on in one of the interview snips when he talks about certain songs that never really worked live , naming Run as a prime example.Have to agree with him on that one.Never done it for me live that song which is a shame as it's a fantastic tune.

Credit where credit's due... and hats off to the band management / Warners for producing clearly the best NO live DVD of the bunch. Even the way the Glasgow footage is shot and recorded is light years ahead of what we we've been given in the past... top notch and I imagine the fanbase will be universally chuffed with the overall package.

Yeah, it really is a positive step in the right direction - but 1963? I was really looking forward to hearing this 'live' version, and what do we get - this fucking weird performance. Was he miming on the night, or has it been dicked around for this DVD??
Other than that - fucking great - love the Glastonbury 81 footage - it looked like a real festival back then - and no snotty Henry's spending Daddy's trust fund and pissing everyone off.
Got mine yesterday. Superb collection on 2nd disc, watching the glasgow gig tonight. Unfortunatley ordered a while ago (pre order) on Amazon so not got the audio CD, still never mind it may turn up on ebay. If you haven;t bought this DVD then do your self a favour and buy it, best NO DVD / Video (legally anyway) you can buy.

Yers right the vocal on 1963 must indeed be the studio recording.Only watched it once so far but on first play it did seem a bit too professional a live vocal by his usual standards.And yeah agree the sound quality on the earlier live stuff is superior to the later stuff.Can't grumble though.Sooperb DVD.
Got mine three disc version yesterday - liked Turn live, much better than on the album. And of course really funny to watch the old stuff on disc two.

Nuts, the 3 discer is the one with the live CD of Glasgow although missing a few songs from what appear on the DVD
Roy and I stood for quite some time in his lounge yesterday, staring morosely at the miserable packaging.
The three disks are on one spindle for Christ’s sake. This cover art is a crappy monochrome rip-off of the beautiful smeared image for the Peel sessions. The quality of the printing is awful and the paper used is car-bootleg quality. The disks themselves are not fun to hold like every other New Order release and re-release that I've seen. They're printed as poorly as the cover and two of them look different to the third.
There’s no theme running through the object as a whole. The light which reflects off its form mutters an apology as it shuffles into my eyes. It doesn’t even wipe its feet; just swims shame-facedly through my optical fluid and slumps against the dark base of my retina with Winehouse, toilet graffiti and the pages of Hello.
I don’t have the words to fully express my disappointment, yet at the same time I feel happy because now I realise even more how lucky we were to have Peter Saville to package everything we’ve bought until now.
That thought is the only thing stopping me from chucking the box in the bin and storing the disks in an unmarked cover; one that at least holds them apart from one another. The balance of function and form is decimated futher by the fact that the packaging fails to deliver either. The disks will rub together if you leave them in that case. The purpose of the packaging is to prevent this. How can someone have decided that this is a good idea?
Or maybe this is the point: that the Factory story is complete. The early sandpaper cover destroyed everything that touched it, the story ends with piece of packaging that spoils only the media it contains? The idea that anyone involved in this project would even consider that packaging could be significant at all, let alone understand a metaphor like that is laughable.
This is potentially the last significant release by one of the most important bands of the last three decades. I know I’m thinking about it a bit too hard, but you would have expected the record company to give it more thought than they have.

Some good points there, Colin , aye.I was very surprised when i opened it to discover all 3 discs on one spindle.Thought at first they had only included one disc by mistake and then was certain for a moment that they'd sent me the standard 2 disc without the CD until i found it at the bottom of the spindle.Hadn't occurred to me that the discs will rub against each other and get damaged so many thanks for that tip, Col.Think i'll store the CD in a spare plastic CD sleeve which hopefully limit any possibilty of damage to that part of the set.
I don't mind the artwork but as you say it is a bit of a rehash of other releases.
And i've never been happy at all with the font they used on the WFTSC album and singles etc. And they've used it again on this.The font for the 3 16 and Finsbury DVDs is by far lovelier.
Watching the Glasgow disc brought mixed feelings.It raised the spirits to have a new release of some sort and great to watch but whereas watching a new New Order concert DVD before got me hungry about the next gig and when where it would be this one leaves a bad feeling in the stomach that there's never going to be a next gig anymore.The interview snippets makes you feel they are still together and going strong.But they're not.
Agree with Colin - the packaging leaves a lot to be desired. No wonder no one is credited with creating it.
Good to see the Glasgow show though (couldn't make it in person - went for Wolves instead) and the extra disc has some great moments on it. Not played the CD yet though.
All in all, a good DVD and way better than the 2 stars the fuckwits at Q magazine have given it.
Haven't watched the DVD yet, as I'm in Telford minus a DVD player, but did buy it at the local HMV store - 20 quid (at least it's the 2xDVD plus 1xCD version)... Hmmm, maybe I should have ordered it via HMV.co.uk (bastards!) instead... :p

But why should the record label give any thought into it if the band gave little effort to it? theyre probably just fufiling contractual obligations, no one is bothering to promote it, its obvious who is going to buy it (Not me!). Sure, the second disc is nice enough, but really, there is a multitude of old stuff available, and they had to stick it in their so some of the fans would buy it, instead of a live dvd which, track wise, is far too similar to 5 11.

The band were involved in the remastering though. They have put some work into the product, rather than just turning up for the gig then roaring off into the night.

Watched the rest of disc 2 last night personal highlight must the rotterdam gig, the 4 trax are immense. If they by some remarkable chance reform again they shoudl play sunrise again.
Also watched the other disc glasgow, great gig, the songs sound brilliant, makes you upset watching it again knowing thats it. WFTSC call trax sound really good, particulary Turn. Went to the blackpool gig of this tour, so glad I did now in hindsight. The sound quality is excellent at the glasgow gig. Never heard the blackpool gig recorded but apprantly its at the end of the joy division doc, so looking forward to that.
Watched the 2 DVDs last night. For those of you worried about the interview interspersed between songs, calm yourselves, there's an option on the Track-by-track menu option to "Play all without interview".
The second DVD is essential. Not for the quality, just the step back in time. The Glastonbury footage is other-worldy. Bernard on the floor is just a hilarious watch thru the fingers moment.
But my main concern is where were Bernard's missing trousers at the Toronto 85 gig ? You could clearly see Gillian turning away from him every time there was a glimpse of hairy plum.

Just picked up the 3 disc version. Bought mainly for the archive performances. Gave it a cursory glance on the work PC - yep, the Glastonbury pre-gig footage was interesting in itself, maybe 'only' 27 years ago but certainly another age, a bit poignant seeing the band, the crowds, the remnant hippy collective, the innocence etc. A very good compilation is disc 2 in itself.
I bought it for Run Wild -- funny they put this on a official dvd! --, but it is overall very good. Worth the buying. It is nice to see a normal behaving mr Sumner at the Glasgow gig. His kids will be proud.
Is this actually available in the shops? Will I be able to pick it up at HMV tommorrow?

watching it for the first time right now. after just one viewing of 1963, something appeared off to me. i too think the audio is the studio version and i think some of the video shots of barney have been looped/repeated. lastly there are a few occassions when the words he's singing don't even come close to matching the lyrics we're hearing.
wonder what the behind the scenes story is on this? i'm not complaining at all, but surely they had multiple sources for material form the '89 US tour. wonder why they settled for this? or didn't go for something from '87 instead?
all-in-all, this is a great release. would love to see many more just like it from the order!

Glasgow gig is not very special, colours: blue, red and black. I prefer the Wireless Festival. Beautiful filmregistration, beautiful colours. Especially She Lost Control when it's raining in the evening. Great sound.

I slag the shit out of him I know (tho, I've never denied he's a genius), but he's not always as bad as he comes over in some of tha footage, it's just a catalogue of spasticity, and there's not ONE soaring wonderful performance to balance it.

Great DVD though, particularly since it sounds as if Hooky has chopped the hands off the post production team who cunted up the last two efforts (Finsbury and NYC). Bernard probably ADORES post though. I've heard bits of boots of the nights, and the DVD sounds "right", unlike the last two which left me checking the gig guide to see if they'd done two nights, or two sets, because the DVD had NOTHING to do with the gig.

I like the footage from Glasto 81. Amusing to see one of the biggest bands in Britain at that time turning up in a Ford Cortina. Those songs work so much better live than they do on Movement
Is it me or do New Order (in their smart trousers and shirts and neat hairstyles) look like they are from a different planet/timezone compared with all the hippy longhairs at the Glastonbury Fayre 81 ?
A shame the sartorial elegance went out the window by the time of the mid 80s footage. Barneys tight shorts and t-shirts etc - or maybe the weather was just a bit hot for long trousers in foreign climes.

I dunno - the Technique period (great as it was) saw the band dressed head to toe in Joe Bloggs baggy gear.

More thoughts on the DVD...
The versions of Temptation and TPK on the Glasgow disc are SUPERB! Tons of energy from band and audience, great show light, Barney and Hooky rocking out. The performance of Temptation on here is IMHO the best version of it out of 3 16 5 11 and this DVD.
I think Who's Joe? sounds brilliant live, really great vocals from Barney and good guitar work. Krafty sounds superb as well.
True Faith sounds great but is a little sloppier in terms of performance than it is on 3 16 and 5 11.
WFTSC sounds great, and YSF is stunning. Crystal is storming as always.
GIAUE actually sounds pretty good live, I think. The crowd seems to be pretty into it. Actually, the crowd seems to be pretty into all of the WFTSC songs, which is great.
TPK and BM are both brilliant......the performance and light show on both is excellent and all four of the guys seem really into it. I love the shot at the end where you can see Barney Phil and Steve all playing keyboards.
The band look really sharp, all dressed in back. Who made the polo shirt that Barney is wearing? I like his joke about a bird having shit on it.
On the second disc...
The 81 footage is brilliant! As is the 83 and 85 footage.
I love on the Toronto footage, when they do Age of Consent. Storming version of Age of Consent...which....
Segues right into Temptation! Yes! I love that you can see Gillian start Temptation on the Yamaha sequencer. She hits the start at exactly the right time. :)

Not sure about the o5 Wireless footage....certainly they did better songs that that at the show....
I would have liked some stuff from 93 and 98 as well, and also perhaps JET and BM from the Hammerstein 05 show.
All in all though, brilliant DVD and well worth the money!
The older footage looks amazing. The quality is fabulous, and the extra bits before the old Glastonbury concert are funny.
For the Yanks in New England, Newbury Comics has this on sale for $12.99. I couldn't believe a double disc was this cheap (doubt we'll get off this easily for the upcoming remasters!)

Got it today from Circuit City for 14.99 + tax. Like some people here I bought it purely for the bonus disc.
early footage was slightly disappointed. considering, the technology was not as good as it is today. still, great footage. THANK YOU

The actual show was fine. However I still think the Finsbury Park gig captured on "511" was far superior. New Order was in top form that day. Makes me wish I was there for that gig. In spite of the monsoon weather.

I'm of the opposite opinion. I think that "511" was really crappy and I thought that was it for New Order; the new New Order was horrendous live, especially with the female backing vocal. Thanks to Hooky who also thought that 511 was awful, he and Steve gave us this new live DVD and I am pleasantly surprised by the very good performances in Glasgow. The only thing I didn't like was the usual 'COME ON' by Barney on "Love Will Tear Us Apart". Other than that, Barney did a very good job that night.
I personally thought 5 11 was a total mess to be honest and rarely watch it these days let alone listen to it. I found the Glasgow DVD to be a massive improvement in terms of song selection, camera angles, sound quality etc. In particular, Barney's vocal performance on Glasgow is excellent compared to 5 11; he was wobbling all over the place on that day in '02.
I think that perhaps the biggest disappointment of 5 11 was that the 2.0 soundtrack was - for want of a better word - fucked. They didn't master it correctly and so it was distorted to buggery; the 5.1 option wasn't much better either. By contrast, the sound and picture quality on Glasgow is perfect so they finally got it right (just in time for the band's demise).
At the end of the day would I rather have some cracking live versions of Turn, Who's Joe? and Guilt over Close Range, Brutal and 60 MPH?!

5 11 is a better DVD for me. Although i did watch it in the fcuked and distorted 2.0 the first couple of times before i played about with it and selected the other settings.Although one of them i can't remember which i could never get any sound with, probably the fault of my old Phillips DVD player i had then.True there is some duff performances of a few songs but overall it beats the Glasgow one for me in terms of the mood and playfulness of the band.Barney's guitar work on Crystal for example is superb - much better than the mostly dull strumming in Glasgow.
i've only seen 511 once, and thank fuck i didn't buy it. that gig and dvd is a giant pile of poo.

The Glasgow DVD is genius regardless of region. And to me covers dont matter, for I netflixed Glasgow, Control, and Joy Division. Waiting one my stimulus to purchase all 3, bless capitalism.

This DVD is a real treat, and reasonably priced as well. The Glastonbury footage in particular is glorious, and having a whole bonus disc of wonderfully chaotic 80s vintage New Order has chuffed me to bits!
so, i love the Glasgow dvd, mainly just for the 2nd one (haven't even watched the 1st one tho i've had it for a week) ...
BUT, what is up with them putting a lipsync version of 1963 from the 1989 Shoreline gig?
sumner is just singing along to a total backing track. really cheesy and a waste of the dvd space.
the other 80s stuff is awesome, however!

I got my Live in Glasgow DVD last night which I thought was fantastic, especially the little interview bits and the sustained camera angles for the live portion. The performances were very good I might add. Not too many woops and whistles, and no screaming. :P
The bonus disc has a lot of footage which I will have to fully take in hopefully one Sunday afternoon.
Tidbits of note:
The Confederate flag controversy subdued- Barney's SG guitar sticker has the text "Kiss My Rebel Ass" clearly read at 01:18:14. Probably obtained for the actual text vs. the subtext.
I noticed a few shots of Phil's pointed shoes on stage for no apparent reason. Was this an in-joke to cut to his shoes at certain points I wonder? They did kind of stand out amidst the sneakers on stage. Shoe gazer camera man?
It might be fun to be at the show, but isn't it kinda silly for them to perform classic dark songs like "She's Lost Control" like they are cliched rocking anthems in 2006? "Wooo! She's lost control AGAIN YEAH!... She's Lost Control! WOOHOO!"... you go girl, lose control all you like honey. Or "Love Will Tear Us Apart, YEAH! Woooooo!" ... there is no tension in these performances, they perform them just like a cover band at a mainstream bar.
I know they are celebrating their past, which deserves celebrating, but maybe this was a good point to pull the plug on the band. Where would they gone from here?

They wrote all these songs that changed the face of modern music, they can perform them however they fucking want to. And you should be grateful that you can see them.
By thier own admission, New Order are a hit or miss live bands. They aren't interested in creating "tension" (ie...fake displaced anger, arrogance, or displacement as showed by so many young bands these days). They are interesting in crafting superb songs.
The performances of Shadowplay, These Days, and Transmission on this DVD were fine.
LWTUA is performed as a celebratory sing along to celebrate Ian's memory. I think its damn fine that they play it like a pub song. I was filled with joy and shouting along when I heard them play it in 2005 in Chicago. I was just happy to see them playing.
To expect a band to perform as they did 20 years ago is absurd and ridiculous. Do you still expect them to be angry young men? Are they not allowed to grow and mature as the rest of us are?
The performance on the Glasgow disc is superb. New Order do excellent renditions of Whose Joe, Kratfy, Crystal, Your Silent Face, True Faith, BTL, and the performances of The Perfect Kiss and Blue Monday are magical. The band are on top form and even Barney is singing seriously and in key (most of the time).
I mean...they are 50....what do you want from them?
No one pulled the plug on New Order. Peter Hook quit. If they were still going, they'd probably have put out a pretty good album. Not an earth changing album, but a good album full of good New Order tunes. And maybe some gigs where we can all aget silly and sing along and celebrate the music we love.
At this point, they don't owe us anything more. They have already changed modern music TWICE.

Probably just about the best gig I've seen them do. What's going on with Barney's voice?? Since when could he sing in tune?! :) Especially on "Who's Joe?" when he does that higher bit. Genius.
Why did they put Run Wild on the bonus disc? Really, really awful performance. You can see the autocue isn't working and the result is an embarrassment.
All in all, a fantastic DVD. Infinitely better than 511.

now why couldn't they have included more complete shows?
its not like they don't have the space on there, or that they quality is that great (except for the last 2 tracks).
it would be nice to see the concerts in their entirety at some point..
