I remember Tony Wilson telling me that he and Saville were in discussion with Apple about bringing out a Factory i-pod which would be preloaded with the catalogue and have a case designed by Saville.
That never happened.
The Zune is the most reviled bit of kit and way below the i-pod as a must have gadget. I hate the association between JD and Microsoft.
Wilson was always ahead of the curve and an early adopter. I first saw an MP3 player at his In The City event in about 1998 (A Rio, I think with about 32mb storage). Such was his enthusiasm he often backed the wrong horse. Stubborn he seemed to object to everything Apple did on principal. He had an IBM thinkpad when you'd expect him to have a powerbook. He eventually conceded to owning an i-pod but hardly ever used it, prefering the CD player in his car.
I'm sure he'd have approved of the zune but he'd have been wrong.
