Superb track.Genius bass playing by Hooky .Great drumming by Steve.Great lyrics.Good intro.A very triumphal feel to it i always found.

Only slight quibble i had with it on first listen back then was the lack of thump on Steve's bass drum but later found the level of the thump they did settle on suits the track.Ecky thump!

" the perfect sequel to the pop rush of Temptation" is how NME described it back in a 1984 live review.

And of course a spot on observation on life and how to lead it when Barney sings

"Dont let anybody tell you that you're no good Cause you know they would Dont let anybody tell you what you should do Cause it's not that way"

I always remember the first time I played this track the day it was released - judging by the cracking intro, I thought we were in for another doom-laden, synth driven symphony, until the fecking chorus kicks in - learned to like it after all those years, though.

Its kinda my least favourite track from Low-Life. But I still quite like it.

Having heard this track playing in my room, my papa described it as circus music.

First I liked it, but with years passed it started to irritate me with its wacky synths.

I have never liked it since the day it came out!

I love the rest of Low Life though. Well except for Love Vigilantes - can't stand that either.

:eek3:

Always kinda thought the Hooky bass sounded a little like a country music hoe-down, I dunno why... is it just me?

The bassline is gay as fuck - it's got that Bobby O thing going on.

Remember when they started with it at the Festival Hall in 84 - superb.

Yeah - good choon and it IS sorta like a sequel to Temptation isn't it?

However, the intro is a bit silly, especially the stupendously Mark King-mungous Thunderthumbs slap bass Hi-NRG salvo (is this Hooky being as gay as he can be or is it the work of a bass synth and not his actual weapon of choice?) which always has me in fits of laughter in a similar way to how much of the Killers' output does today.

  :thumb:

A song with a great into but I don't like the rest of it The weakest song of a great album....

When I first heard it (87ish), I though it sounded like a world cup tune.

Then 3 years later!!! :\ohwell:

Anyway... I love it...

I do.

I'd wish they'd played it live more often.

I think it is okay, but pales in comparison to most of the tracks that precede it (and I don't like it as much as a few of their other closers such as Leave Me Alone, Dream Attack, instrumental on Republic, etc)

Its a great song.....

They played it live in 88 when I first went to see them and it became one of my favourites.

Superb song and how can you not like Love Vigalanties either? Theres only 8 trax on lowlife so if you don't like two of them can it be that great? Anyway not a bad track on lowlife and face up is excellent

It's one of my favorites. My sister also drew a parallel to circus music, but she listens to crap.

I love the song, gives me a good reason to sing along until I'm laughing because of all those "WHOOP!!"s that Barney adds in there. One of the best songs to sing along to when the rest of the day has gone to hell. :thumb:
