Just heard a god awful cover of True Faith by someone called Liz Kay !! Ranks along side Paul Youngs version of Love Will Tear Us Apart on the No Parlez album & Simple Minds instrumental version of the same track on one of there 'b' sides. Anymore truly awful covers out there ?
Worst Cover Versions ?

Arcade Fire-Age Of Consent Radiohead-Ceremony(it sounds like shite to me, im sorry don't kill me) The Get Up Kids-Regret fook it every cover ever except the community 1 and 2 versions suck.
If you meant me, my opinion and utter hatred for those covers was festering for more then two years.
All of the cover version of anything originally by Joy Division, with the exception of New Order and well as Radiohead's cover of Ceremony---were horrible, IMO.
Radiohead's cover of "Ceremony" is not too bad, but it adds nothing new to New Order's versions so what's the point? I still think that New Order's 7" was near perfect, I wouldn't ask for anything else, not even a Ian Curtis vocal.
Pains me to say it, but New Order doing LWTUA 2005/6 for turning a delicate cat's cradle of sorrow into a knees-up-Mother-Brown of Chas'n Dave proportions!

It will never be recorded. Just Radiohead doing some tracks they grew up with in their youth. They did a load of them on that podcast, and didnt change them at all. Just a respectful nod to the bands they were into when they were forming c.1986. I think as a straight version of Ceremony, you'd be hard pushed to find much better.
I did a cover of WFTSC about a year ago, and was really pleased with it at the time, even got the wife to do the 'is it or isn't it Gillian' backing vocal, just came across it again recently and it's shite, I promise never to do another cover, not with me doing vocals any way, in fact I'll never do vocals, that'll sort the problem out!![]()

Agreed, it's always made me downright queasy.
Ian would probably not mind though ;)
Unlike several of you I actually rather like and respect Moby. But that Temptation cover.... wtf.
Frente - Bizarre Love Triangle Arcade Fire - Bizarre Love Triangle Orgy - Blue Monday
Can't stand these at all.
I personally love those obscure american and european female vocalists who sing over dull trancified versions of new order songs
Digital's Ultraviolence was pretty fucking shit, on reflection. Wish we'd never recorded it.
U2 and Arcade Fire doing 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' and Grace Jones doing 'She's Lost Control'.
Mainly I don't mind the covers, it's just someone trying to perform songs that they love. Most people couldn't do them any better - apart from those on Community 1 & 2.
Special mention to Pottsy's 'The Village' - best NO/JD cover I've ever heard ![]()
I will stick to my old answer in what i posted in a thread in the State of the Nation forum. The worst New Order cover is:
The Ice Cream Bandits - The Perfect Kiss
(Sorry whoever you are, but it is really bad!)
Indeed!

It was supposed to be! None of us had ever met before, let alone rehearsed, and it was a spontaneous jam using borrowed equipment that hadn't been tuned. Featuring the Martian on keys, Liv on vocals, Major T on cowbell, Jim Reilly Jim Reilly on vocals and me on bass, at ATR's Homage night after the Old Trafford gig in 2002. I shudder to think how much alcohol had been consumed that weekend.
Ech...I didn't know Fall Out Boy had covered LWTUA.
Fall Out Boy, like all emo, is so predictable that I can imagine exactly how it sounds already without even having heard it.
But which is the worst cover version? All of them! Seriously, they're all godawful.
I haven't heard the Community cds, so no offense to those people who post here.
The Eigth Circle doing Bizarre Love Triangle is the worst New Order cover I've ever heard. Honourable mentions for crappiest cover go to Frente and Moby.
I think we can all agree, it just doesnt work for a new order song, without barneys whooping, hookys rock star poses, and stevens side to side head movements while drumming.
The absolute worse JD/NO cover IMO is Xiu Xiu's cover of "Ceremony". It sounds like a madman singing and it hurts my ears. The other horrible cover is the Fall Out Boy cover of "Love Will Tear Us Apart".
nnn wrote: Unlike several of you I actually rather like and respect Moby. But that Temptation cover.... wtf.
Sorry, but his version is fantastic. There was no point in attempting to copy NO's style, so he took it in an entirely different direction, and made it work. Somehow.

Oh yes, totally forgot that one. Ceremony is my favorite song of all-time, and to hear it so butchered pains me.

It's a classic. It was a great night. I'm a genius on cowbell.
That is all.
:)

At first I thought "Like Nouvelle Vague, except a bit more shit." Then I saw the humor in it, and thought "still shit, but smelling funny can be funny too."

I've always liked the Frente! cover... not the best mind, but I do indulge in it from time to time...

what a ridiculous thing to say.
low - transmission for instance, a great version of the song & completely different to the original.

I just can't listen to covers very often, sorry if that makes me seem a twat. Some covers are just beyond bad, when you try to make a soft song hard, or an electronic song "rockier". Orgy killed blue monday.
I usually dislike covers too. Having said that, I actually don't mind Frente's BLT. Granted it's nothing like the original version, and I won't even compare them, but then, what's the point of doing a cover if you're going to make it sound exactly like the original? I'd just as soon listen to the original, then.
Nouvelle Vague - Blue Monday. I'm amazed on one's mentioned this yet...
And for the record, Fall Out Boy's cover of LWTUA is one of the worst covers by an established band I've ever heard.

I may be in the minority with this one, but I really dislike Shadowplay by the Killers. Yes, I know it's a Joy Division song, yet NO are still whats left of JD, so I see nothing wrong with my stating that.
I actually forgot about the 'Means to an End' cover cd out in '95. I don't know what happened to my copy but I wish I still had it. It was pretty decent.
The worst cover version I've heard was an acoustic cover of Blue Monday with female vocals. I don't know who does it but I heard it on a shopping mall muzak system about a year ago and have never heard it again since.
Don't know if this is the worst but this morning I heard about 30 secs of a cover of BLT - in Chinese female vocalist. The taxi-driver changed stations and I don't speak Chinese!
Never mind other people's terrible cover versions of NO/JD songs..... one of the worst ever renditions I have ever heard is actually by New Order themselves.
Who could forget their 2001 live version of Joy Division's "Atmosphere" - performed in the truly excruciating showbiz crowd-baiting cabaret style that has become so beloved of the Barnster of late whenever he is up there on stage.
For those who may have forgotten, here is an approximate transcript of how it went.....
"Walk.... [HUHHHHH!!!!]In silence.....Don't walk away-ay-ay-ayyyyyy... [WHOOOO!!!!!!]In silence......See the danger.... [HEY!!!!]Always danger....Endless talking....Life rebuilding....Don't walk away...... [COOOOOME ONNNN!!!!]Walk.... [HUHHHHH!!!!]In silence.....Don't turn away-ay-ay-ayyyyyy... That is indeed horrifying, I HATE when he does that. Thank goodness that when they do a recording of a Joy Division song, there's no UHHHHH, AAAAOOOOOHHHH and the famous COOOOOOM ONNNNNN! Afterall, it's the in-studio material that is the true representation, so says the Barnster
.
Any of those trance backed songs with some random chick singing a crappy rendition of temptation.

Agree 100% mate! A coupla years back I posted a thread 'Times change?' where I said there's nuffink wrong with opening up your back catalogue just as long as you can do justice to it! This one just doesn't work.

Oh yeah, that is the worst cover I have ever heard.
But I like Frente's and Moby's and I enjoyed the 3... (BLT, New Dawn Fades and Temptation)
But that 8th Circle crap is by war the worst I have heard.

Soz Moby's NDF is a complete horror.
Fall Out Boys' LWTUA should be Universally banned. Other side of the Universe is Almanso's C1 Ceremony is a clear winner.
