New Order Remasters Release Date - 22/09/08

This could be old news to some but it wasn't to me so thought I would share just in case etc...

No sign of Movement at this stage, nor any details re: track-listing. However, the £14.99 RRP would suggest there is a possibility of a 2nd disc as with the JD remasters. Here's hoping this is the case and that they put the right material on there. Oh, and that the remastering itself is not botched, in true NO stylee...

As you can imagine, it will be a copycat of the Joy Division ones. Same concept.

so remastered version of the album with a live disc tacked on - no new material then....

Poor show if the only extras are a live show. I was hoping for all contemporary non-album singles and b-sides, etc - collecting all their studio material together. This means it's still all scattered about - the original 7" versions of Ceremony and Temptation are still only available on the Singles compilation, for example.

The recent Sanctuary remasters of the Fall's back catalogue are a good example of doing re-issues well.

How about getting New Order to reform to re-record some of the tracks from each album.

Yeah and they could tour to promote it....erm hang on..

herm.. reform, do some new stuff, re-record some old stuff and throw in a couple of jd gems, dead souls, something must break etc and i suppose to see if there were still a fan base, do some low key small gigs on a concept (early/late/eclectic/shambolic/raging/drunk/pissed off/backs to audience/experimental jamming...)

i suppose i could just about buy into that!

shame the 2nd disc cant be a DVD with a live show filmed from the time (PFOD, Academy, Montreux for example) and MP3's that follow the original 'Recycle' Box Set concept of all the A/B's and other releases from the time as MP3's instead of audio CD's.

wonder if these remasters be coming out on vinyl ????

Warners - if you're reading this, please, for the love of God, don't f*&$ up the mastering with extra compressed loudness completely killing the dynamic range.

I'm not an uptight high-end audiophile snob - I've got basic stereo equipment and I've noticed Warner cds have been sounding like absolute crap lately.

i like the idea of re-mastered cds, but having recently read so much about the loudness wars, I'm skeptical that these will sound good at all. i don't think re-mastering of anything is justified these days, unless you are a musician looking to cash in on what you missed out the first time around.

well, I thought Retro and International sounded better than the original 1980s cds, but I thought Singles was way too loud. So if they are going to remaster, I hope they use the mastering engineer from Retro box.

I wonder if the band members have anything to do with this 'project' ... if so ofcouse ... :\ohwell:

If this time things don't go right, like putting a 2nd disc on every album full of rarities, remixes, singles & b-sides, than we have to wait another 20 years I think.

However: there still IS a chance that Substance will have the FULL LENGTH 12 INCHES if they're going to use a 3rd disc (with extra dub versions on it).

I also hope London Records will read this

No live show on the 2nd disc, please The 2nd disc has to be packed with rarities, demos and stuff like that.

And please, do not f**k up the remastering process: stay close to the feeling of the original album

I really don't need a live second disc. Anyone who has had a broadband connection for the last few years will have New Order Live stuff coming out of their ears!

I'm not even that bothered about rarities (although the complete Confusion 12" Single on CD would be nice). WHAT I REALLY WANT IS A GREAT SOUNDING, NON-COMPRESSED REMASTER OF THE ORIGINAL ALBUMS. Sorry to shout with capitals BUT LONDON JUST LISTEN TO ME - HIRE STEVE HOFFMAN TO DO THE REMASTERS AND YOU'LL SELL A LOT MORE CDs!!!

they are just gonna take the old cd, run it thru a Loudness Maximizer, so nothing resides below -2db, and put it all in new packaging.

...and add some B-sides to disc 2, job done.

I'm easy to please (and a remix fan), just give me CD's of every remix that was never released on CD :)

Spotnik, Can you tell us who to write or email to let them know that the fans are truly tired of substandard reissues that add no value or quality? If these are just repeats of the JD remasters (remember the excuse "yeah they're s*** and they don't include what the fans have been asking for, but if the New Order crew hadn't of gotten involved they would have even been more s***") then they can count me out. Think about it:

Best of NO: Just half of "Substance" with a few more recent tracks and redundant remixes.

NO Box set: same tracks as all the other "best of discs" with the exception of a dodgy live disc and a fifth disc the fans had to brow-beat them into including. If they think having pseudo-celebrities choose their favorite tracks added anything worthwhile to the whole affair then the band are mistaken.

Singles collection: stereo channels reversed and many single versions left off in favor of album versions.

When are these guys going to stop trying to rip us off???

Or the 05-06 tour backing tapes, since they sometimes sound like midis on steroids.

I totally agree with this post below. I think New Order, or London Records, or Rhino Records, or whoever is taking charge of the catalogue these days needs to see this and understand the sub-standard bullshit the band has been putting out under Joy Division and New Order.

They got it spot on with the new DVD: a great recording of a "greatest hits" live set that actually sounded live rather than mixed after the event (including some nice "human" mistakes"). Back with a great retrospective look at their (sometimes shambolic) live performances from over the decades.

However, leave the live rarities for the DVDs. Any second disc should be in the mould of the excellent Pet Shop Boys and Fall reissues - b-sides, rareties, unreleased, demos, etc. Not more live tracks I'll only listen to once.

I'll be very disappointed if it's just live tracks on the second CDs.

Substance is my favourite album of all time, so they'd better do a good job of re-releasing that!

Not sure how true this is, but I found a site that, on May 12th, quotes Steve as saying "I was talking to Hooky a couple of weeks ago, and he's found some old tapes for the extra tracks. We're all getting involved in hunting down unreleased stuff."
