Not sure. Patrick Cowley remixed the Donna Summer Hit 'I feel Love' and the sequencer line is very similar to that of Blue Monday.
He was a definite influence - Megatron Man, Do you Wanna Funk (with Sylvester), and Sea Hunt all have that hi-NRG bassline with syncopated lead riffs to create pure electronic disco.
Blue Monday was definitely influenced by this stuff - make no fucking mistake.
