Regret vs Love Vigilantes

I'll go with Regret, even though I like the lyrics to Love Vigilantes better. Regret is just a beautiful song.
No contest, as much as I like LV, regret is just a fantastic song, much better bass, better melody and a better structure.
Could start antoher thread this one as Regret and Love vigalanties are both 1st trax on albums. New Order usually start with a great track on all their albums. My Favourites are Age of Consent and Crystal. Least favourite Fine Time (although still an Ok track).
Shouldn't this be a poll? ![]()
And why are we even comparing these two?
Both perfect examples of how New Order can soar, and both in my personal top 10.
I'll go with Love Vigilantes cos it's more of a rough diamond and not quite so polished.
What Al just said. Word for word.
LV scores a couple of extra marks for relative rarity at gigs. You knew you were going to get Regret, but LV was a bit of a treat. A great spine-tingly foot-stomping good time of a treat.
One of my New Order high points was the intro to LV at Barcelona in 2005. Fucking great opener. Showed us what the sound system, which I was standing inches away from, could do. Surrounded by beaming, sun-kissed faces. Plastic glasses of warm lager. Jumpers for goalposts. Back. Of. The. Net.
Do I win Forty Pesetas?
i can see what Al is saying and agree. However, i get the feel that Regret was the song Barney was always trying to write.

The same for me. I would just add that I think the album version of LV is a bit wasted by Barney singing too high for his kind of voice.
I've finally started to love Regret after all these years so right now it's edged in front. When I get a remastered Love Vigilantes I'll probably change my mind, the old CD version never sounds as good as the LP did.
with great regret
I plump for Love Vigilantes.
Once you Mr Albrecht's ad lib lyrics at ULU in 1985 you will never ever forget them![]()
Love Vig long way ahead on the live front. Loved it at Move festival in particular. A song I really grew up with on my favourite LP. I loved it when we saw them play it in the states in 2005 introduced as a real red neck song. I think of it as a country type classic. Indeed there have been some great country style covers blue oyster cult i think for one?
Regret was a great comeback single at the time and i remember listening to it on Anne nightingale for the first time and getting really excited. It clearly is one to warm the poptastic fans up but i think crystal for example is in a similar vein but much better.
Love Vig everytime
