Urbis Hacienda Exhibition World Tour

Just spoke to my pal at Urbis, apparently they're in the early staged of planning a tour of the Hacienda exhibition that ran last year.

At the moment, they've pencilled in Brazil, Argentina, New York, Chicago, Detroit, Seattle, Tokyo, Sydney and maybe (and I did say maybe, Maya) Novi Sad.

If anyone in those areas fancies getting involved in some way, let me know.

And (this is the exciting bit) if anyone from any other town in the world can think of a suitable location where there'd be enough interest, send the details or post them here.

They’re looking for proper arts/cultural venues with proper security and environmental controls. So no point suggesting your garden shed.

I have a feeling we might be hearing from someone in Miami very soon...

Although I might take the opportunity to mention that I was at Urbis yesterday and noticed that they are selling some frankly gorgeous reproductions (I'm guessing they are repros, rather than surplus stock) of the original Factory enamel badges. They have both colours of FAC51 and the US factory roof one (which is also available as a tie clip) and the simple silver on blue prefect style FACTORY badge.

You've got one like that said my son, pointing at the yellow and blue one. Yes, I replied, we copied them.

And now they've copied us

YES my mate SHACK bought a Tiepin and it is very NICE.About £25 i think but they could not find the BOX for it.We got it eventually.I do like my tours of MANCHESTER.

I bought a copy of Saville's new book. It's all wrapped in cellophane and that's where it's staying: minty mint

They're selling Design by Peter Saville with a blue strap where the pink one once was.

Considering, Urbis is wholly funded by Manchester City Council this sounds like a world tour on the rates. How many council workers will be clambering to go on the Bali leg of the tour?...

...not forgetting the bastards at the town hall want to introduce a congestion charge.

The exhibition at Urbis was sponsored by Key103 and Adidas, amongst others. Relative to other events, I'm sure the shop did well out of the associated merchandising.

I'd guess that more commercial events like this subsidise other events at Urbis.

I don't know though.

Hello all, Thanks for the responses. I've just finished up the complete touring pack so will be in touch with everyone that's left their details asap.

As for the question of funding - we are funded by the council but not wholly and there's always pressure to become more self sufficient - hence us trying to toour the exhibition instead of all that hard work going to waste and so we can generate an income line separate from corporates coming in to use us as a venue for awards dos and so on.

Having said that does anyone know of any good contemporary culture venues in Bali?

Covers were from Saville's collection - maybe not mint but certainly genuine.

Very good. The REALITY was it was such a GREAT exhibition i went SEVERAL times.I just have a FETISH for dusting!
